i often think of how Frank Frazetta — maybe the greatest scifi/fantasy artist to ever do it, the guy who single-handedly defined the whole swords-and-sorcery aesthetic — also did this moving sketch titled "Give Us Barabbas."

My new novella is out today. This is aimed towards college-educated liberal Mormons & unlike much of my Mormon-centric work isn’t weird/genre fiction. It’s lit fic. It’s about academic disappointments & the pull of home & Marilynne Robinson’s Gilead novels, so ymmv: motleyvision.org/unseating-of...

Friends, I’m teaching my television class again this spring. So I have to ask the media studies peeps: what’s your favorite piece of television criticism, ever? Favorite critic to look into, old or new? Looking especially for older pieces 🙏🏻

loved this! has me thinking about BLUEY as a model of utopian storytelling and how i could draw on it for some of my own utopian fic efforts

(and of course, hit hard in the feels with the reflections on trying to be more present for kids and my own wrestles with that)
New today:

"BLUEY shows the world at its best. It’s not an impossible standard. It’s something to aspire to: basically perfect art about a world of realistically imperfect characters striving to be a little better one day at a time."

-@ethanwarren.bsky.social

(plus: an audio version, too!)
This Essay on Bluey is Called "For Real Life"
There is no bad Bluey. Every episode is just as good as every other one, which is to say: basically perfect.

hello it is Transgender Awareness Week! I am trans and I wrote a trans book. You can buy it if you want. Or show it to a friend. Or simply admire the cover art and contemplate your stay on this planet, and then make some art about that 🌱 be aware!!
Hi Bluesky! I wrote a book :)

BIRDS TO BONES is a collection of art and writing I’ve made throughout the last decade, while processing grief, mortality, chronic pain, life as a queer Mormon, and faith transition. I hope there’s something in it to resonate with everyone.

2023's bday wishes from me to all of you:

1. Make a little peace (could make a BIG peace, but that feels a lil' overly ambitious)
2. Watch/read/listen to something you’ve been longing to check out forever
3. Tell an artist/writer/creative/filmmaker you appreciate their work and why!

I agree with what @jbouie.bsky.social said yesterday: If you decide not to release something and you take a tax write-off, it should pass into the public domain, since effectively the public has now subsidized it and you are claiming you can’t make money from it anyway.
