Anyway it's a fun movie and I'm really interested in what the public reception of it is going to be, both in that it's extremely anti-AI, and that it's a blockbuster-y movie that was made largely independently and being put out by a relatively small distribution company

Ahead of the release of Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, I want to relay something from the Q&A after the early screening I attended.
There's a scene where people are shown scrolling a tik-tok-like app showing endless AI slop videos. Per Verbenski, all of them were made by human animators.

Gore Verbinski tells us how his new movie ‘GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE’ presents a different kind of AI villain.

“I think we’ve seen Skynet, we’ve seen HAL 9000, we’ve seen the AI killing machine. [In our movie], it just wants us to like it. That’s what is really scary.”

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DONT DIE opens like an AI merged THE TERMINATOR and GROUNDHOG DAY.

But this funny, savage and surprising anti-tech comedy is so intricate and angry — so shamelessly ambitious — you can’t believe today’s Hollywood put up the cash to get it made

Part of what deeply annoys me about this is that episode counts are so much shorter. So in these sawed-off seasons, characters are spending way too much time telling each other things they all already know. I’m absolutely sure most writers & actors hate this as much as many of us do.

There are some shows I have given up on because of the constant constant re-stating of exposition. Exposition is a thing that is definitely needed in normal amounts. The amounts being demanded right now by executives at some streamers is excessive & annoying & has killed my interest in some shows

This whole thread is great, but Mo hits on the greatest "Previously on" segment of all time. "The Road So Far" is the thing that turned "Carry On, Wayward Son" from loathed cheese-rock into one of my favorites. Supernatural is *still* criminally underrated.
At the end of every season, before the season finale, Supernatural would have a very long previously called “the road so far.” we have strayed so far from God (and Crowley’s) light etc etc

Should you read reviews of your own books? Almost certainly not. But sometimes, with the way the modern world is set up, it's impossible to avoid it. Some thoughts: www.tom-cox.com/why-reading-...

It's exactly this. Musk never gets called on the fact that he's been 10 years out from a moon colony for the last 16 years; Republicans never get called on anything; why wouldn't CEOs start testing out this new accountability-free zone and just say whatever's convenient to manipulate the moment?

One thing I appreciate from Strange New Worlds is that it finally confronted the Eugenics Wars/World War III shit by saying "Look, fuckers got time travel, wibbley-wobbly timey-wimey go fuck yourself."
Honestly I kind of love how the writing considerations that gave us the mess that is the canon slowly leaked into the narrative itself - the writers gave up and just said "the timeline makes no sense and WW3 keeps moving around because of the time war. A wizard did it. Shut up"
