Great blog from @ruthchambers.bsky.social today on amendments needed to the Environment Bill: "It is essential that the OEGW’s independence from the Welsh Government is watertight, something which the bill currently fails to secure."

At a crossroads: why Wales must futureproof its new green governance - Institute of Welsh Affairs
The new OEGW can fill our environmental governance gap, but it must be given the legal duty and resources to ensure its independence and delivery.

Great to see this piece gaining traction. A strong Bill is crucial for us to deliver nature's recovery in Wales - and to re-establish the rights and governance we lost after leaving the EU in 2021.

We need a strong Environment Bill for a #NaturePositive Wales 🐝🐬🌱
It’s well-known that Wales is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with one in six species here at risk of extinction from our lands. It’s now time we do something about it ✍️Wales Environment Link

IMPORTANT:

The more Israeli crimes are exposed, the more emboldened Israel becomes in committing even more.
If you’re following the news & the lists of victims’ names, you’ll understand what I’m saying.
Lately, every single day, Israel is killing over a hundred people—some of them entire families.

Came on here to complain about the ITV coverage of the women’s football simply not mentioning Wales’ game on Saturday but describing England’s game as ‘the big one’ but there’s actually real problems in this country 🙃
After around just 90 minutes of debate, the UK Parliament has voted to take the unprecedented step of proscribing Palestine Action, an anti-genocide protest group, as a terrorist organisation.

That is a stain that will never wash off the Labour party.

This afternoon, the Planning Bill enters the House of Lords.

Within it is a proposal that would make it easier to destroy the woods, rivers and wildlife we all love - by weakening the laws that keep them safe.

If Part 3 isn’t changed or scrapped, nature will pay the price. ⚠️

“They're missing the whole point in that we're seeing more fires, a longer fire season, more intense fires, more severe fires, because the climate is changing due to human activities,” said fire expert Mike Flannigan.

Wales is told to celebrate the pitiful £450 million for new rail, when a single road in England is getting £590m… and we were originally asking for the £4 billion owed by HS2.
This is far from the public’s priority for transport investment and every £ spent here is not being used to deliver projects that would really make a difference to people’s daily journeys and undermining goals to get more stuff moving by rail. Disappointing.

Work on the Lower Thames Crossing is expected to begin in 2026 and finish by 2032.

Google Earth has just released satellite imagery of Gaza December - we're familiar with seeing destroyed buildings, but the thing that strikes me is how much farmland there is producing food for the population, and how that is gone. Replaced with tracks through the soil. Nov 23 vs Dec 24.

And more people than ever blame immigrants for the fact that they can’t afford a house. ☹️

They've relaunched it with the worst sort of AI-generated content.
Remember the National?
