Its actually hilarious how compromised both of these parties are. Not an ounce of credibility
NEW: Before the recent Epstein disclosures, Larry Summers was poised to lead the economic policy plank for the Democrats' "Project 2029" effort at the Center for American Progress. He signed off on a housing policy paper CAP was prepping for next week.

This is what male solidarity & collective action to oppress women looks like:

Artist Andres Serrano--successful, but nowhere near the same class as Thiel & other billionaires in the files--stating that he'll vote for Trump, despite his politics, out of *sympathy* with T's sexual assaults on women.

Seeing a lot of posts saying that if these Epstein revelations had come out they would have stopped the Trump campaign. Access Hollywood, numerous rape allegations, and the Epstein association were all public before the election. People just kind of accept that powerful men will treat women badly.

My main takeaway from the latest Epstein leaks is how many wealthy, powerful people write in unintelligible sentence fragments sprinkled with random punctuation. Sad.

I have in my hands definitive evidence that my opponent has committed a world-historic evil. Evidence that, were it to be released to the public, would cause his supporters to abandon him and his entire world to crumble to dust. I therefore have no choice but to give in to every one of his demands

You gotta wonder why Democrats thought it necessary to cave at nearly midnight on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. Because the optics are shit.

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

I've talked a lot since the book came out in August about how developing an actual vision is narratively important for Dems. But also, more substantively, there's a temptation absent a vision to let people suffer from GOP policies and actions in the hopes Dems benefit from the backlash.
Ezra Klein, having spoken to a "dozen or so House and Senate Democrats" over the weekend, says at least some of them worried extending the ACA subsidies would take them off the table as a political issue and wanted Republicans to keep the filibuster.

Literally all of them voted to confirm Marco Rubio, that's reason enough.
Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

It's kinda pointless to be mad (or happy) about how individual senators voted on this. Leadership wanted it and they picked people (like Tim Kaine who isn't up until 2030) who could get away with voting for it.

tough numbers for the golden child of the pro-moderation crowd
It’s no walk in the park to serve in Congress, and I don’t begrudge Golden for stepping away. But it seems likely that his polling numbers among his own constituents factored into the decision.

Favorability:
16% favorable | 41% unfavorable

Deserves to be Re-elected?:
26% does | 57% doesn’t

Sometimes you meet a book at just the right time, & the ensuing pain is what you needed all along to midwife a catharsis. I read @hazelzorn.bsky.social's Reef Mind at work today @weirdpvd.bsky.social, & it felt a bit like cauterizing a wound. Here's the blurb we've got up for it:

The lesson Democrats should learn from yesterday is to run in a wave election. It's really easy to win when you do that.
