Can confirm. Prepped for a colonoscopy yesterday while watching people do amazing things at the Olympics. Procedure this morning, then I got to eat this. Schedule your colonoscopy! Then eat a wagyu croissant smash burger or whatever makes you happy!

Not that I would ever be invited, but I would happily keep company with everyone who was disinvited, it sounds like a great group, and likely on the right side of history.

Even a decade into this farce the brazenness with which he boasts about stealing resources from a neighbor by force is shocking. Even the old colonial powers at least *pretended* to have some higher aim than pure plunder.
Trump on Venezuela: "That was a perfect attack. We've taken over a whole country. We've taken $4 billion of oil in one day. That will increase."

So, if Trump were to extort Usain Bolt to give him his Olympic medals, would that make Trump the fastest man alive in the 200-meter dash?
sometimes things are simply so stupid that i can't get my head around the idea that they are happening.
This is sad on so many levels — about something that was intended to celebrate the best in people.

Just a guess that we are 3 years from an actual "national security" event.
The White House is now citing "national security" for everything it does. Seriously, check out these headlines. It's just the last few weeks.

If you know authoritarian history, then you know how menacing this is.

RFK Jr. is going to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It will take a few years before the deaths and disabilities ramp up to a level that even the most vile Republican cannot tolerate.

RFK Jr. will be long gone and unaccountable, as our babies die from preventable illness.

i was reading this at the bus stop and having complicated feelings about it, and the bus came and i got on and sat down and i noticed the guy next to me was watching tiktok (you know, like everyone on the bus), and i glanced over, and it was a jamelle bouie video

so ok universe you win this time
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

I used to defend Twitter: if your feed was crap, you followed crappy people. Then it became X, where crap was the product.

Now the complaint is that Bluesky’s “too bland”? Same story. It’s who you follow. Give it time; blandness might just be the beta phase before chaos.

Still, it's the journey.

Bright side: Net, they one cut one day.

Dark Side: The people getting free access are the ones who celebrate Trumps birthday, which probably are not big national park patrons nor advocates.
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
