Disappointed to learn Bad Bunny wore Zara, effectively promoting the brand to millions. Although Zara has made admirable strides to address labor conditions, fast fashion can never be ethical because it depends on rapid production and cheap prices, which results in worker exploitation.

On this week's Oxide and Friends, @booch.com joined @bcantrill.bsky.social and me to talk about the past, present, and future of software engineering. From hand-made computers and the software crisis of the late '60s to LLMs (of course) we covered a lot... with--as always--many dated references!

Published the design document for how nextest implements records, replays and reruns. It's very large — over 6000 words! Lots of decisions and alternatives considered, to make what I believe is the best implementation of this set of features in the industry. Have a look!

@maryrobinettekowal.com did SUCH a fantastic job!
Quite enjoying @tkingfisher.com's A House With Good Bones audiobook. @maryrobinettekowal.com is a surperb narrator.

And this horror story is so fun (speaking as a biologist).

Respectfully, no. I think it's perfectly okay to be ashamed of past behavior even if at the time it was acceptable, or at least tolerated. Also, bluntly, there has never been a time in my life where the "r"-word was not used as a slur, even when it was legitimately used clinically.
I don't use it today and haven't used it in decades, but I don't think it's worth being ashamed about doing so in the past. There was a legit use of the it before it got overwhelmingly corrupted by jerks using it as a slur. I'd rather say I'm proud of what I say now than ashamed of what I said then.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.
