Relatedly, if you haven't been in an archives you have no idea just how much historical material is not online, not even a digital record of it. An LLM cannot research data it doesn't have. It can't even extrapolate where to find that material.

My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

I had a joke about Polyphemus, but unfortunately Nobody got it
I had a joke about the lotus eaters but I forgot it
I have a joke about the Fates but it’s convoluted and the thread’s hard to follow

Imagine if burglars openly complained about how asking for permission to enter victims homes would ‘kill’ the burglary business.

In addition to this, Luddites were also protesting against child labour, inflation of food prices, erosion of labour rights, excessive military spending, etc. Essentially, a system that sought to deprive them of health and power to benefit a wealthy few. Seems pretty relatable!
Luddites weren't anti-tech.

They were against technology being used by the capitalist class to capture wealth at the expense of the worker.

I am a Luddite, and a tech enthusiast. They're not in opposition. I want technology that makes MY life better, not that sells my life piecemeal to corps.
I hate crypto, I hate online gambling, I hate AI, I hate pay-later, I hate subscription models, I hate the gig economy, I hate ring cameras, I hate drones, I hate self checkout.

I don't want to come off as a luddite but capitalism's hold on tech sucks.

A contributor has had to withdraw from something I'm editing, late in the day. I'm looking for a sprightly 10,000 book historical words on the broad theme of 'consumers/consumption' and the period 1450-1650 (not necessarily all of it).
