There are 300 "rue aux écoles," streets closed to cars, but open to people—up from 185 last year.
That means *half* of kindergartens + elementary schools now have school streets.

Reimagining our city starts with bold ideas, and sometimes, those ideas come from 9-year-olds. 🌱 The Connaught Open Street, a pop-up park beside a Calgary elementary school, started as an idea from a group of fourth graders. Now it’s permanent.

Mobilizing Alberta, Building Capacity of Climate Action. Mobilizing Alberta is a five-year initiative at UCalgary led by the Office of Sustainability and was undertaken with the financial support from the Government of Canada. Many communities across Southern Alberta are already leading the way in implementing innovative and equitable climate solutions. Mobilizing Alberta aims to strengthen the capacity for advancing climate action across Southern Alberta by: providing grants for climate action projects that bring together community organizations with UCalgary faculty and students; offering a "Preparing Albertans for Climate Change" free e-course; and organizing a series of events open to the campus community and the public to generate climate awareness and inspire action. In case you haven't already heard, on Tuesday the Connaught Open Street was approved by Calgary City Council to become a permanent park! This marks an important milestone in the project, as it clears the way to finalizing the design and beginning construction of the permanent park space.
