Just got a large number of new followers over the last week or so, so I guess I should introduce myself? I’m AJ, I write a lot about LFC *and* social justice; oftentimes at the intersection of both. I’m particularly into abolition, anti-racism, and pro-immigrant work. I also love the Backstreet Boys

It's striking that it's so rare in mainstream American political discourse that anyone suggests that the interests, values, or agency of people who aren't American deserve consideration. The debate is basically about what will make Americans safer, richer, and more powerful.

Hello! I would love to speak to women who are fans of Heated Rivalry, including those who are new to MM romance and those who aren't, for an article I'm working on exploring the genre's appeal to women.

My DMs are open or I'm at juliacarriewong.11 on Signal and julia.wong@theguardian.com on email

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Finally getting around to Sing Sing (2023) and about halfway through I’m convinced it is an achievement. Coleman Domingo got rave reviews when it go wider release in 2024 (which is a big reason why I wanted to see it) and he doesn’t disappointment. Catch it if y’all have a chance!

Internet’s been out since last night but I did manage to watch everything from the Wirtz equalizer to the late equalizer. Tough but at least it looks like Wirtz, Hugo, Frimpong, and Kerkez all finally look bedded in. Wish injuries weren’t a thing and I feel (maybe naively) we’re better than we look.

Open Veins of Latin America would be a terrific book to read with others if you have the bandwidth to organizing a book discussion.

Farm workers join workers around the world in condemning U.S. aggression in Latin America.

Too many children of the farm workers who feed the United States have been sent to fight overseas while their families can’t put food on the table at home.
We join the international labor community in condemning President Trump’s unconstitutional actions in Venezuela.

Will forever remember *someone* insisting Gabbard was more of a dove than any of the options in the 2020 election. Feel it’s important to note cause it’s related to folks - wrongly - suggesting DJT was less hawkish/less likely to take up interventionist policy. Bad analysis coming home to roost.
I believe this is the latest social media post from the US Director of National Intelligence, who hasn’t otherwise been heard from today.

babe wake up, they're doing insider trading on war crimes
“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

No to war. No to empire. Solidarity with the Venezuelan people and all in search of peace, struggling under oppressive conditions, and in need of safety.

Members of Congress: stop posting online and APPEAR, PHYSICALLY on the steps of the Capitol to decry this unconstitutional violation of domestic & international law. SHOW THE PEOPLE the level of danger we are facing as a country.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

I am a broken record but: this will require Supreme Court reform. There is no chance the John Roberts Six allow prosecutions of Trump officials to stand.

1/
Special prosecutors on day 1. Everyone in this administration who broke laws— including every ICE agent who ever kidnapped anyone— must go to prison. All of Epstein’s buddies prosecuted too, Democrat or Republican doesn’t matter.

Has to be this way or this country won’t survive.
No but really my fear is that the next democrat in the White House will be conciliatory and deliberate when what we need is a chainsaw and some sage.

“Cities are the Real American” is so goddamn real. I’ve felt this deeply in my bones, perhaps because the dog whistle of suburban/rural America being more real was always obvious to city dweller of color. Maybe more pronounced to me as an Angeleno, but feel it’s true across the US.
It's so fucking refreshing, and so fucking cool, to see a politician that loves the city he lives in and represents. Cities are the Real America. Both in practice and in the ideal.
Mamdani: Where else can you hear the sound of the steel pan, savor the smell of sancocho, and pay $9 for coffee on the same block? Where else could a Muslim kid like me grow up eating bagels and lox every Sunday?
