Life time of living in BC has given me an appreciation for the absurd in politics and real life. Play bridge quite badly. Used to write. Love train travel. Happily married 40 years to man who does not play bridge and hates trains. I don't donate.

AI should ask AI if there's a business case for AI.
AI has yet to make money on a scale that even remotely matches the “mind-boggling investments” made to develop it, Hanna Rosin says. She spoke with Charlie Warzel to examine whether the AI boom is actually a bubble. | The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/202...
What If AI Is a Bubble?
America’s economic fate looks tied to AI—for better or worse.

Canadian pennies, because they're copper, are now worth whatever the price of copper is. I think US pennies are some kind of amalgamation. Are they going to be worth anything now that they're going out of circulation?
This thought is only worth a penny, if that.

Before emails there were memos They didn't have to be very literate. They didn't have to be complete sentence. The ones at the office I worked at were three parters. You kept one, recipient kept one and one was filed, so now, 48 years later an archivest will be able to read:

Watching House of Guiness. My dad used to talk about the Finian Raids sometimes, but I don't think we ever learned about them in school. History of others coming to Canada to fight their overseas battles goes back to before confederation.

Not so many redcoats as yellow pants. Britain had more important things to worry about (or thought it did at the time.)
Trivia - Canadian beer was based on Brit ales and US beer was based on German lagers because of all the Germans who stayed.
(trivia stuck in my head - might be wrong.)
Nov. 12, 1775: Lord North tells King George III that the Cabinet urges "a large & speedy augmentation of Force," particularly a corps of foreign troops. He believes that mercenaries from the Hessian and Brunswick states in Germany would serve in America if their rulers were offered "large terms."

Twist on a horror. Young woman on a hiking trip comes across a cabin full of men - and they invite her in, feed her, give her a safe place to sleep, and drive her to her hiking trail so she can meet up with her parents.

Thought - maybe there should be a scene where the Chinese cooks get fed up with people crashing through their work spaces and put their cleavers to work. I'd laugh.
On my bucket list: To be chased through a kitchen at a Chinese restaurant like in the movies.

'I was crazy, and everything turned out good!'

When I lived in Holland the Dutch people were very kind to me because I was a Canadian. They had many stories about how Canadian soldiers fought for their freedom.

They were shocked this is not common knowledge for us.

Montreal man saved a Dutch town from the Nazis, but most people don't know his name | CBC News
On the evening of April 14, 1945, Canadian soldier Léo Major single-handedly liberated the Dutch town of Zwolle from the Nazis, in a story that's almost too incredible to be true.

Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.

I met my cat coming in from outside.
"Other cats," said I, "poop outside."
She looked at me with disdain.
"Where are these "other cats?" are they in the room with us now? If so, I shall sort them out."
Then she went and pooped in her newly pristine litter box, scoffing as she went.

I made sour dough rye bread yesterday. It was very good even though I did not take the recommended 2 days to make it (slight exaggeration) I don't know what the point is of stretching instead of kneading or leaving it in the fridge overnight instead of baking it the same day.

I remember when there was huge outcry and warning labels on records because they were supposedly making teens do immoral things.
Can you imagine if someone released a computer game, or a musical album, or *whatever*, that was designed to sexual groom children, or encourage them to commit suicide or any of the things LLMs are doing on a daily basis, how quick the media and political condemnation would be?
Oh my god I’m crying

There is a very cheerful but slightly dim radio host on a station I listen to sometimes. She was talking about a Joe Jackson song, and then segued into what a successful family the Jacksons were. Michael in particular. Cracked me up.

Discuss.
On this day in 1991, Paul Coffey scored his 311th goal to pass Denis Potvin for the most career goals by an NHL defenceman. Coffey finished his career with 396 goals, second behind only Ray Bourque. Potvin is fifth all-time behind Bourque, Coffey, Al MacInnis and Phil Housley.
