I went to meet the 'Rockstar 31', the developers who were suddenly fired from their work on GTA 6 for what the studio has described as gross misconduct.
That's not what the workers call it though. They have another couple of words they prefer to use: union busting.

Just to be 100% clear: do not *trust* your employers - that's super silly. The relationship is economical, not based in loyalty, trust, or kindness. There's no judgement in forming a union, just understanding that capitalism requires a risk of financial loss to get companies to do the right thing.

One mistake I see happen a lot over decades of game development is studios thinking they need to grow.
You don’t.
Plenty of studios have survived with 2-5 people for decades, and if one game is a big success they get nearly infinite runway.
If you’ve grown, it’s only a year of runway. They die.

it’s fine for people to be horrified about the destruction of the white house as long as it moves them to act against this administration. in fact that feeling is way more useful than the smugness that makes posters feel more informed than everyone else.

I will say that nothing is more baffling to me than the industry standard that we teach developers about publishing by having them listen to talks and panels by publishers. It's like fiscal responsibility taught by a loan shark, privacy taught by Google, or human rights taught by Israel.
