"The accelerating climate crisis presents a range of deeply interconnected risks that threaten to destabilize the Earth system and society." This is what happens when you 'cut the green crap'... #climatechange #climatecrisis
"The future is still being written. Through choices in policy, investment, education, and care for one another and the Earth, we can still create a turning point. It begins by embracing our shared humanity and recognizing the profound interconnectedness of all life on the planet"
The 2025 state of the climate report: a planet on the brink

Exciting wildlife encounter at #WALBEL with the appearance of a "large mouse" on the pitch! #JoeRodent showed excellent footwork to outsmart the Belgian keeper. #WALvBEL #JoeRodon #CroesoyGymru #Rat #Largemouse #FAWales

There were so many #fungi in #Casehill woods today that there wasn't #mushroom for anything else! 😄 35 species seen. My personal favourite was a delicate coral #fungus.

Fascinating walk along Penarth seashore on the lowest tide of the year. Amongst the usual beadlet anemones I found an unusual #seaanemone and would appreciate help with #identification. Could this be a red speckled anemone? @sewbrec.org.uk @thembauk.bsky.social #rockpooling #sealife

I finally paid the extra charge to visit the castle at #StMichaelsMount and I'm very glad that I did! Not only does the Chevy Chase dining hall have a fantastic frieze, but the windows are full of #stainedglass. @nationaltrust.org.uk #glitchart #digitalart #reimagined #glitchlab #glitch

Fantastic views of the rather charming phalaropes at Lisvane reservoir. Both grey and the single red-necked phal were very happy to feed close in. #birdingwales

A beautiful northern wheatear was the highlight of a pre-rain walk to Lavernock Point. Significantly fewer hirudines than yesterday. Also of note: skylarks over and a few chiffchaff in the hedges. #birdingwales

I often think about this study that shows ducklings swimming in a single-file formation behind their parent conserve energy through wave-riding, where trailing ducklings gain forward push, and wave-passing, where energy transfers efficiently along the line. Get your ducks in a row.

Professional #cycling has got a huge #sportswashing problem. Petrochemical companies, car makers, airlines and pariah states are all using cycling to create positive associations with their brands. Governing bodies need a credible plan for an ethical funding solution. www.reuters.com/sports/rider...
Riders threaten to quit Vuelta if more protests disrupt race
Vuelta a Espana riders voted to neutralise Wednesday's stage 17 if pro-Palestine protests disrupt the stage rather than race to an "undefined finish line" as Spanish authorities announced "extraordinary" security measures for the final two stages.

Full #TdF vibes on Caerphilly Mountain during the #TourofBritain earlier. Scary lack of coordination of road closures afterwards though - at least one RTA seen on a supposedly sterile course! #Safetyfirst

New studies suggest a 70% chance of #AMOC collapse by 2100 at current #GHG emission levels. This could cause severe impacts to food production and widespread coastal flooding in the UK within the lifetimes of our children. Urgent action is needed!
I was shocked when I first saw these results from standard climate models used in IPCC reports: for high emissions, the Atlantic overturning circulation #AMOC shuts down in all 9 models that ran past 2100, and is well on the way to shutdown by 2100.
Our paper on that is out today.🧵

Wonderfully moody skies at Rhos Point this morning. Bonxie offshore harrying Sandwich Terns, with a GBB Gull keeping a close watch. Pairs of Common Gulls and Oystercatchers on shore, with small groups of Cormorants streaming by, and 20 or so Herring Gulls bobbing around. #birdingwales

Good news as scientists are starting to unpick the causal factors and mechanisms behind recent 'heat dome' events in Europe and the US. Research suggests that they are linked to atmospheric resonances. And the bad news...

Nonetheless, that means that current model-based assessments of historical changes and projections of the future likely underestimate the potential for increases in the sorts of very damaging and dangerous persistent summer weather extremes we've seen in recent years.
