writer of fiction and essays, prose editor at Middleground Magazine, the museum will not be decolonised! Hauntology, horror and heritage... she/her
This is finally out! An essay about whiteness as religion and museums as temples of whiteness... I've been thinking through this for years, very grateful for the space to express these ideas. Whiteness is not simply psychological, but a way of being. Saying this with Palestine on my mind.

I cannot begin to summarise this astounding piece of work by @maggieblackhawk.bsky.social on the racial, colonial & imperial qualities at the core of the US Constitution.

It's 150 pages long, it has 985 footnotes. It should be a book. You can read it free here: harvardlawreview.org/wp-content/u...

Half a million people in London right now. Jewish activists in New York last night. Polls in both countries overwhelmingly support a ceasefire in Gaza. Cannot imagine this level of support even five years ago. Whatever happens, the Palestinians are no longer alone.

There is no decolonisation of institutions in a world that is so brutally in the grip of colonial conquest and capitalist extraction

Jews calling for a cease fire have taken over Grand Central ✊

Tell me again how they’re marginal. Absolute nonsense.

How many more apocalypses will we witness? How many more will they create to serve their fantasies of power and conquest? When will colonialism end?

With everything that's happening, the loss of the other place as a functioning platform where people across the world could document and share state violence and abuses is clear. We can't underestimate the importance of social media. This is, unfortunately for many, a perception war.

so tempted to write a "I'm not actually dead" article from the perspective of Literary Fiction herself... "all rumours about my demise are greatly exaggerated. I'm just wearing different clothes and avoiding the limelight."
“Literary fiction” is dead. What even was it? I wrote about its short life (created in the 1980s!), conditions of possibility, & rapid decline into obsolescence for The Nation. A taste of my book, Big Fiction www.thenation.com/article/cult...

I am absolutely terrified for the Palestinians trapped in the open air prison created by their colonisers. To think that the Israeli government can call Palestinians "human animals" and still be defended... there is no justice until Palestine is free

this year I embargoed myself from publishing essays and stories and the result has been 100000s of words written because getting short pieces into publishable shape can be incredibly time and energy consuming. just had to do without the dopamine hit of getting stuff out there! #AmWriting #Writing
