A group of Epstein survivors just formally demanded that the DOJ Inspector General open an investigation into how the heavily redacted Epstein files were released. They’re demanding action now to release the files and we stand with them.

President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe has called for the release of tribal members detained by ICE in Minnesota.

“Tribal citizens are not aliens and are categorically outside immigration jurisdiction," he said. "Tribal members are U.S. citizens by statute and citizens of the Sioux Nation by treaty.”

The only way forward is through a general strike while Herzog visits. 150 years ago, they said the British would never leave India. But they did. They said the British military was too powerful. They said that apartheid would never end. We know what to do.

The Albo government's antisemitism bill is a rushed hatchet job. Nobody has proper time to consider it carefully enough, and it will have all sorts of unintended consequences if passed. It is the worst kind of law-making: moral panic induced, pandering to powerful lobby groups' demands.

In Albo's new antisemitism bill, the definition of "hate crime", which underpins the new regime to proscribe "hate groups" like the Nazis, specifically excludes "advocating genocide". That is, advocating genocide is treated as not being a racist hate crime. Now, why would that be?

Excellent think piece by Hugh White. It’s time to walk back our dangerous obeisance to the US and develop a defence strategic posture that is much more appropriate to fundamentally changed circumstances.

Advocates of higher ed did heroic work rallying against this monstrous bill, but its passage was probably preordained. It's custom-made for today's Republican Party. It centralizes power in the executive; undermines education and critical thinking; censors speech; and attacks imaginary wokeness.
Texas legislators just passed a bill that
gives politically-appointed regents control over faculty curriculum, hiring, & governance. It does what they accuse academics of doing: privileging ideas, biases, & agendas on political grounds, & silencing those that do not follow their ideology.
Political appointees would have more control over Texas universities’ courses and hiring under bill OK’d by House
Senate Bill 37 would give more power to university regents, who are appointed by the governor, to vet and veto new curricula and administrators.

Only those, like bullies, are missing a very important intellectual/moral gene if they don’t have empathy.
In fact, it should be embarrassing.
It is a sickness. A flaw.
Elon has this flaw.

Elon Musk called empathy a “weakness” of Western civilization. But philosophers argue the opposite: empathy is a hard-won form of knowledge — and essential for understanding others and making informed decisions buff.ly/WTS28lC #PhilSky
Empathy can take a toll – but 2 philosophers explain why we should see it as a strength
Empathy affords us a more accurate understanding of others’ experiences and emotions. Just like pain, it can be hard to bear – but that’s also the source of its strength.
