South Wales was looking spectacular in a light dusting of snow and crystal clear sky today. From Keeper's Pond on Blorenge, a mountain overlooking Abergavenny, there's a lovely 5 mile circular walk around/over the summit. A fabulous day and lovely to be out with at least a little snow under foot. 🥾

Did the Bridgend circular walk today in glorious sunshine. Hard to imagine the views over Mynydd y Gaer looking very different, but plans for 11 turbines are on the table and part of Coity Wallia Common could be blocked to long‑used access. A reminder of how quickly landscapes and rights can change.

Footpath surveys in Coychurch Higher today. Finished by walking the disused railway line between Rockwool and Brynna — still inching its way toward bridleway status after an application first made in 2018. A long wait, but progress is finally visible.

Two Pencoed Trailblazers cleared 70 metres on Pencoed Footpath 32 this week and even rediscovered Pencoed Spring by stepping straight into it. Another 30 metres to go, but the route is already taking shape. Community action making a real difference.

Happy Christmas all! Our traditional post-meal walk at Rhossili in glorious conditions delivered a small flock of c20 Common Scoter and 3 GC Grebe out in the bay. No Chough but there were a couple of Seals out on the head snoozing their afternoons away. #birdingWales

St David’s Cathedral, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The present cathedral was begun in 1181. The ceiling was constructed in the 16th Century from Irish oak. In the 17th Century, the cathedral was all but destroyed by Cromwell's forces.

#Sunset over Cardigan Bay, near #Aberaeron #Wales.

The sky below the cloud was so clear the horizon was sharp as a knife, and when darkness fell, we could see the Goleudy Ynys Enlli lighthouse on #Bardsey island at the tip of the #Lleyn peninsula 75km away!

Pencoed Trailblazers at it again! 18 volunteers, 15 bags of rubbish & 80 metres of paths restored at Coed Iestyn today. A woodland still marked by its past as a clay pit that flooded in 1906. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up and helped this historic space keep recovering. 💚

Sarah Murphy MS for Bridgend & Porthcawl says we’re the friendliest, chattiest bunch around… so why not come test her theory? Come and join the Pencoed Trailblazers at Coed Iestyn, Pencoed this Saturday, 10–12. You’ll be welcomed with a smile.

In Tregaron, one of the bases of the 16th Century outlaw Twm Siôn Cati. Last year I hiked to his cave hideout near Rhandirmwyn. The road that connects the two places is one of the most scenic in Wales. Oh yes, here's a ghost story I wrote set on that road... 👻😊

Less than a fortnight ago, I was enjoying the views from Crug Hywel, a brilliant Welsh site that gave the nearby town of Crickhowell its name.

Did a #SlowWays walk today: NarTen One (Narberth ➡️ Tenby, Pembs).
Flooding meant a detour, but the scenery was gorgeous and the walk thoroughly enjoyable.

Slow Ways is a brilliant initiative—helping walkers feel confident that routes are safe & accessible.
