Very difficult year over and I am on my last day off from work. I think I will play Welcome to Elderfield for several hours and clean my room

Mamdani took over the @NYCMayor account on Twitter but old Eric Adams tweets are still active. That means Mamdani's name and face shows up for old tweets he didn't send.

You're probably going to see a lot of screenshots like this where Mamdani appears to praise Netanyahu, but they aren't by Mamdani

Give yourself something to look forward to next year. Something less substantial than a resolution which can carry regret if you can't stick to it. Think of a book you want to read, a genre of music you'd like to learn more about, a curiosity to chase no matter how trivial. Keep your spark lit.

happy new year from the west coast. my 2026 resolution feels both very small and yet large: I intend to make at least one person’s year easier than it would have been without me.

I am NOT a professional artist but I do quite like drawing as a hobby and used to do commissions for side money so if anyone is new to drawing and has questions feel free to @ me too. It can be a very fun and meditative form of self-expression especially if you aren't doing it for likes/numbers
to everyone with a new years resolution to start drawing: this is normal. do not give up hope. keep going

And systemically, the incentive structures are just bad. Companies are rewarded for engagement and retention. "User developed healthier relationship patterns and now uses the app less" is a failure state by their metrics. The darker equilibrium is what the market rewards. :(

Have been randomly recognized by my voice irl as "are you the one who did those videos on parasocial relationships?"
"What was your biggest impact on the Internet?"

I'm the guy.

i think what gets overlooked is that part of the humor and charm of edits like these is that you're perfectly aware that someone sat down and spent their own time making it. they chose to do something cool or silly or stupid or genius, regardless of the results

that human element elevates the work
Who needs AI when we had stuff like this? I’ll take photoshop edits over the slop any day

Work is going super well and I have so many wonderful people in my life but 2025 was still very challenging and at times excruciating so I am hoping 2026 is Not Like That

Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +
