We're an urbanist group, focused on safer streets, giving citizens more options, and creating a more financially responsible city.

Help us support bus lanes on Bank St: strongtownsottawa.ca/Bank
Pinned
With all of the talk about Lansdowne 2.0, and improving transit access to the location, this is the perfect opportunity to get fully dedicated 24/7 bus lanes, not just during "peak" hours.

Delays for buses are almost constant throughout the day.

Reminder this Thursday we'll be going over the new zoning bylaw and what that means for our city! We'll have Rosaline and expert from BuildingIn, who focuses on what infill will mean for cities!

Infill is exactly how we get out of a lot of the issues we're currently facing with infrastructure!
Interested in learning about the impacts of the new zoning bylaw on the neighbourhoods in our city? How they'll be evolving over time, or how some might stay stagnant? We have BuildingIn coming to present at our next monthly meeting!

Join us Thursday to learn more!

Sharon Nyangweso did a wonderful job with this article about intensification versus preserving character. She originally wrote it in the New Edingburgh, we thought it was great and asked to put it up on our site as it pertains to a lot of the things we preach!

Yes absolutely! This isn't just any part of our city, it's unfortunately something that pervades pretty much every part of our city. People are constantly fighting back against progress, yet also complaining about our current circumstances. - Marko

The same can be said of many neighbourhoods. In Orléans we complain about the state of our main street then block every attempt to make it walkable, cyclable and more densely populated.

For decades, more sustainable & responsible cities haven’t just been possible — they’ve been common sense, logical, & ridiculously obvious! And yet we’ve failed to act, for many reasons, including that we’ve let ourselves be lied to.

A better future thru better cities is STILL possible. #Leadership

This is good to see (and likely a reputable source 😉). Among major Canadian cities (pop. 500K+) Ottawa ranks #1. Among ALL Canadian cities, we rank #4. Some of the numbers don't seem right (transit time, avg. rent), but it's still good to rank so high. 1/ www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Refreshing to see the city acknowledge that extending an arterial road would actually make traffic worse.

We discussed the recent transit reliability issues with Kristy Cameron on 580 CFRA.

We need reliable transit in our city so that residents have options for how to get around, without having to spend tens of thousands on a car.

I read in the Centretown Buzz a while back that Centretown won't be getting a small library branch to replace the Main branch once Adisoke opens because Ottawa Public Library policy is that branches must be at least 3km apart.

So a was a bit shocked when I read David Hill's newsletter just now...

It was amazing being part of the process, seeing all of the wonderful ideas from the students, and seeing them present it in a room filled with friends, family, and even some city Councillors!
