I think I have achieved middle-aged person nirvana - I had a teenager randomly approach me and tell me I was very cool. My husband said I should have said, "My children disagree" but I just thanked her.

I have loved the Smithsonian museums since I first visited them when I was 10. I hate reading exhibits now and wondering if they will be gone soon because they mention certain subjects that the administration wants to eliminate any mention of.

Love this philosophy. It’s similar to mine - just organic but purposeful conversations combined with money they can choose where to put it. For our kids, it’s part of their weekly allowance. My older son has put it towards the rabbit rescue he volunteers for in the past few years.
Don’t remember? When they were old enough to be able to engage w/ the concept? But we’ve *always* talked about our giving with them, had a tzedekah box for loose coins that we’d turn into bills when it was full & decide together where to donate that – v concrete for littles— so it’s organic. AND+

It is deeply fulfilling as an author to go to your local library's website and see that someone has your book checked out.

Cop30 didn't deliver all we hoped for; there were some wins, including recognition of Indigenous territories as a climate solution. It also underscored that climate leadership comes from the people, and we must keep the pressure on our governments to leave fossil fuels in the past!

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

folks can complain about the effectiveness of scheduled orderly mass protest but to think about it another way its the closest thing we have to the opening scene of A Muppet Christmas Carol where all the muppets sing "there goes Mr. Dipshit, there goes Mr. Ass" to Scrooge and it clearly bothered him
