Parenting snark, social and climate justice, scicomm, and nerd stuff. She/her
This comic hits way harder now than when it came out in the late 1980s. Especially because I was Calvin’s age then and see so much of him in my kid now. It’s true that kids both care and will call us out if we’re being hypocrites.

Not well-known in the US at all, but even into the 90s, the UK post-punk band the Manic Street Preachers wore very gender-bending outfits, in purposeful contrast to grunge. Their bass guitarist /lyricist Nicky Wire still sometimes wears skirts on stage.

We have one last chance to demand that President Biden's Department of Energy stop the massive liquefied methane gas (LNG) before Trump takes office.

Join me in urging the Biden Administration to deny pending LNG permits! app.sosha.ai/s/YQK5ihxS

Seeing your kid light up in delight at one of your favorite bands playing is truly amazing. Thank you @tmbg.bsky.social for giving us an awesome experience!

Many days, my energy is more like this.

Show me a picture on your phone that has your energy that isn’t a selfie. (I don’t know if this is my energy so much as what I wish my energy is, but you know.)

There is such a lack of third spaces where a diversity of people can interact freely. That’s why I’m so glad our city has them. And plenty of bike accessibility and parking!

Biking places normalizes non-car transportation. I've been biking in my city for 10+ yrs. In the last year, I've had multiple people tell me that I inspired them to start biking. I hope I've also helped people be more supportive of bike lanes. Public displays of sustainability make a difference.

I had the honor of being at a celebration of our bike committee’s now-retired chair. Describing the whole group, our city’s mayor said, “Our community is better because of you.” It was an amazing thing to hear and is true of all of you advocates, even if people don’t say it to you in-person.

Visiting the Harriet Tubman Community Museum & Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park inspired a sense of hope. If this woman in the most dire of circumstances could carry out such acts of bravery, what can we do now? #FindYourPark.

This is a rabbit who will judge you if you don’t vote. (And if you don’t give him snacks.)

I would normally have posted our rabbit, but this horse is too dang cute and I found him in my photos first.

Standing on the ice, watching the croquet players in the distance, little did I know that I was already stranded on a glacier.

For Earth Day, we attended a protest to move America’s climate case forward and stop the Department of Justice from blocking it in court. Tell Biden to let it go forward! actionnetwork.org/letters/tell... #SaveJuliana

Me too. I was never a rabbit fan, but they are my kid’s kindred animal and I’ve gotten quite fond of them. People underestimate how destructive they are. B/c a lot of shelters don’t take them, people also tend to abandon them in awful ways. I’ve started volunteering at a rescue w/my kid and ooof.

Ideally…

Quote post with the fictional character you are in your head.
(Also, older Lisa Simpson and in my more ridiculous moments, Leslie Knope.)

This is actually me at 23, but it’s part of a batch of the oldest digital photos I have! Weren’t my husband and I stupidly cute? (We’re still cute, but 17 years older.)

Parents - please, please let us all commit to not valuing our children’s future “success” over their current selves. Love kids for who they are now, not who they may be in the future. We don’t need our kids to be the “highest achievers” or “NY Times bestsellers.”

Hands-down. There were so many times watching this show that I could relate entirely too much to her.
