When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

Trump is wasting billions & destroying our economy & freedom with ICE terrorism.

He has an evil plan to put hundreds of thousands of people in warehouse concentration camps.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Far-fetched, but fun: You could boycott a retailer that supports anti-democratic goals — or you could buy $300 worth of stuff and return it the next day. Every day. With Amazon, it would be easy. Order it and then return it to Whole Foods. The “No More Normal” Campaign. Think of the lovely chaos.

Finally, protest music. It fueled the labor movement, the fight for civil rights and helped turn the tide against the Vietnam war. We need it now more than ever. It’s harder to ignore facts when you want to sing along.
I’ve been really moved by the use of music in the resistance to ICE in Minnesota. The singing gives hope and comfort and strength and assures us that in the end, peace will prevail. The arts are on our side. History is on our side.

👎A federal judge behaving as a judge should, pursuing justice. Note the photo below the signature.
I know you've heard that a federal judge ordered the release of 5 year old Liam Conejo Arias and his father, and that they're now home.

But did you look at the judge's order?

It's less than 2.5 pages and well worth a minute. "Jesus wept."

I don't like to talk about stories before they are fully reported, but I am writing on ICE in a Minnesota town that isn't Minneapolis. However bad you think it is, it is worse. It is a campaign of pure terror whose only strategic goal is more terror. There is no strategy other than to break people.

It’s not enough for people with platforms to speak out. Reporters should be traveling to Minneapolis in large numbers to make it clear that the pressure will only intensify.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

MSM should swarm Minneapolis and make it clear that arresting journalists will only bring more scrutiny. I’m recalling what happened in Arizona when Don Bowles was killed. News organizations banded together to track down the people involved.
Autocratic regimes hate the free press. They hate journalism because they don’t want to be held accountable. These Minnesota journalists are being targeted because journalism has prevented this administration from doing even more insane things in Minnesota. Remember it was video that proved lying …
