Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

SUPERB and angrily unvarnished response, by former BBC chairman, Lord Patten.

Edgar Wright's THE RUNNING MAN is … OK? Lots of lively action and fun but not all that smart or satisfying beyond broad dystopian vibes. And very blokey - v few female characters of substance, and devolves into guys punching and shooting each other - like it could have been made 38 yrs ago. Oh wait…

Absolutely amazing: they've got so much solar in Australia that they need more people to use more of it, so the gov't has instructed energy retailers to offer *at least three hours of free power* during the middle of the day.

Meanwhile fossil-addled US struggles with an energy-price crisis ...
Energy retailers to be directed to offer free power three hours a day
Saying there is enough solar power for everyone in the daytime, Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen will direct retailers to provide three hours of free power every day to consumers.

I think I can answer exactly how many times this has happened in Britain …
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"
