BBC holds a consensus reality space that a lot of people dislike the BBC for a number of reasons and appreciate specific parts of its many services. Without BBC, we lose that space. We shrink our shared cultural commons.

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …

Michael Bennet: I really am a Bolshevik. I believe we should provide universal healthcare to all Americans as a right. There is no reason not to do it in the richest country in the world, especially if we can do it at half of the cost of care we are providing now.

📺 Watching the next American Revolution 🇺🇸 unfold from a distance, it’s still up close enough for it to feel visceral & a sure sign that it will have a major effect on many lives, including mine. I don’t have the foresight to see likely outcomes, but i don’t have a good feeling about any of them.
