I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.
So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

Opinion | Robert Redford: America is in crisis. It's time to rid ourselves of Trump.
This monarchy in disguise has been so exhausting and chaotic, it’s not in the least bit surprising so many citizens are disillusioned.

Happy to help. Nothing happened. Everyone pretended like it didn't happen. It's almost entirely gone. Horizon World somehow exists. $45bn basically disappeared into a black hole owed to "lack of a clear vision and mismanagement." Who knows what happened!

Correct. The tariffs are not economic policy, but instruments of domination. To Trump, every relationship has a winner & loser. He is using US economic might to bully & dominate every trading partner, individually. Each must now scrape & plead for special permission *not* to be punished.
The purpose of these tariffs is to be able to lift them to those who bow down to him and sacrifice their dignity. That is what he did to the GOP, the billionaires, and is doing now to Big Law. Those who stand up will be punished, those who bend a knee and humiliate themselves will be rewarded.

it is not *just* that federal officials legally shouldn't be using signal, it is not *just* that discussing this kind of thing using a consumer messaging app is wildly illegal, it is *also* that they talked a ton of shit about people who are supposed to be our allies
i'm going to take this to the obvious next step and say senate democrats should be calling for resignations and prosecutions, in that order, in every message they deliver on this, an average enlisted person would be absolutely *fucked* six ways from sunday for doing this
to be clear everyone on that Signal chat should be referred for prosecution. obviously they won’t be, but they should.
