I read The Novel Life of Jane Austen by Janice Barchas and Isabel Greenberg recently and it is phenomenal! It mingles words from her letters and works to depict three distinct episodes of the famous author’s life. I think it would appeal to fans and newbies, too.

The Novel Life of Jane Austen is a fascinating and informative look at the life of one of British literature's most enduring authors. Most ...

Have you read Spectators by Brian K. Vaughan & Niko Henrichon? It’s an epic ghost story that’s about humanity’s potential mass extinction coming about from social media and escalating mass shootings. It’s also a commentary on our growing desensitization from what media experiences we can access.
Spectators
Spectators  uses afterlife and science fiction future tropes to examine our contemporary lives and relationships with sex and violence. It i...

You know what’s a great series? Absolute Wonder Woman. @kellythompson.bsky.social & @cleanlined.bsky.social raise the bar on stories about the Amazon Princess, recasting her in an epic way, with new abilities and weapons but the same mission of compassion. The artwork makes everything next level.
Absolute Wonder Woman, Volume 1: The Last Amazon

Agreed. It’s more about censorship than anything else.
Those panicking, returning to the old bullshit claims that reading comics lesser or that comics are corrupting the youth?

They have an agenda.

They FEAR kids that read widely, that read what they WANT, that learn empathy for all.

Comics detractors are, ultimately, cowards.

Treat them as such.

I just read Justice Warriors vol.1 by @mattbors.bsky.social & @benclarkson.bsky.social and it is a biting commentary on our lives and times. It features amazing action sequences & comedic timing, awesome artwork, and very memorable visuals. Another triumph from @ahoycomicmags.bsky.social!

Merry Spurgemas!
Today is Tom Spurgeon's birthday. Read some Little Orphan Annie or Cul de Sac, write a friend you miss, call your mom, gossip about comics with friends, get a group together for dinner, give a book you love a review, see a play, talk for hours with someone who means the world to you. Remember Tom.

In case you think you have to stay locked into Spotify…
Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:
How to quit Spotify
This Black Friday, here's a guide to finding the best Spotify alternative

I just read Out of Alcatraz by @ifyoucantwell.bsky.social & @mrtylercrook.bsky.social published by @oni-press.bsky.social and it is a great thriller that constantly ramps up the suspense while simultaneously telling a very poignant, human romance. It’s breathtaking how much happens in 5 chapters!

Amen!
There ain't nobody who does it better together than @thekylestarks.bsky.social and @schweizercomics.bsky.social except maybe Brubaker & Phillips.
The Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton by @thekylestarks.bsky.social & @schweizercomics.bsky.social is an excellent comic that has so much going for it: a rich backstory soaked in action movies, so-bad-they’re-good ‘80s shows, and a feud between actors and stuntmen.

I love mini-comics!, part 2: I just read Bezoar no. 5 by a bunch of folks from and around Athens, GA. The great cover by @neilaglet.bsky.social contains a bunch of fun and spooky/romance-themed stories and a couple of illustrations and comics by the incomparable Patrick Dean (RIP).

Truth!
it is now possible to transfer your spotify playlists seamlessly to other listening apps btw
Now we know where all that Spotify money is going. Not to the artists - perish the thought. No, the CEO has invested it all in AI weaponry designed to kill humans. I wish this were a joke.

Happy Halloween! To celebrate, you could go read Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees. I was late to the party reading this one, and it’s just as creepy suspensefully good as advertised. Seeing cutesy animals do vile things is not just a gimmick but part of an unreal, unsettling ambience.

It's all hands on deck. I am shamelessly asking, one more time, for reposts and signal boost as this bird glides toward a landing in a few hours. It's gonna be a beautiful book, and there aren't going to be very many available afterwards!
