I love mini-comics!, part 2: I just read Bezoar no. 5 by a bunch of folks from and around Athens, GA. The great cover by @neilaglet.bsky.social contains a bunch of fun and spooky/romance-themed stories and a couple of illustrations and comics by the incomparable Patrick Dean (RIP).

I love mini-comics!, part 1: Joining @mikedawson.bsky.social’s Patreon means I get one in the mail every month. A great decision on my part!

My first (that I remember) was Detective Comics #507 written by Gerry Conway, drawn by Don Newton and Dan Adkins. It features a murderer named Manikin who freaked me out.

What was your first Batman comic?

I just read Marvel All-On-One by @ryannorth.ca and Ed McGuiness. It’s told all in splash pages, and it’s a fun smash-‘em-up tale that captures the spirit of the bashful, blue-eyed favorite nephew of Aunt Petunia.

Cheetah and Cheshire Rob The Justice League #2 continues this great heist series. Here they start getting the crew together, and I love the combination of newer and more established, less used characters. The writing by @gregrucka.com is taut, and the characters really sing and pop, in no small

I just read Mahdi Khene’s Yirasuka: The Baddest Bitch in Sector Six issue 2, and it’s a wild, fun, and profane ride. This exciting comic also includes a number of guest interludes, including one featuring @santossisterscomic.bsky.social , which was a great surprise to me. Adults only!

I met Jim Shooter last year at HeroesCon. I asked him to sign my copy of Adventure Comics #346, which was his first published work at DC. The issue introduced new Legionnaires Karate Kid, Princess Projectra, Ferro Lad, and (spoiler) the traitor, Nemesis Kid.

What's a comic you consider an unsung classic?
Something you rarely see discussed but, in your opinion, is amazing?
Can be a single issue, arc, series or OGN.
One for me is Eddy Current.

RIP Jackson “Butch” Guice. I had this poster up in my room for most of my teen years.

Finally, I read the first issue of this series written by @ashcanpress.com. It’s a sci-fi yarn about a brilliant, disjointed scientist, his young daughter, robots, and the spies who want to take them all out. I found myself guessing at what was going to happen, then shocked, then eager to read more.

An outstanding debut issue. I’ve really been anticipating this series, and it’s lived up to my mental hype. A compelling plot, lots of interesting twists, and ends on a tantalizing reveal. I feel things will turn ugly quick, but it will be a fun ride. The artwork by @mrtylercrook.bsky.social is A+

Absolute Martian Manhunter has been a series I’ve been looking forward to, and this issue was an interesting, fun read. The artwork is outstanding. I am not sure I completely understand what’s going on, but I am hooked!

The Jump continues to be an exciting and suspenseful series. If you like noir, extreme menace, and painful cliffhangers, this book is for you. Every issue leaves me starving for more.

It’s my birthday! To celebrate I read a bunch of comic books. First off, the latest from @mikedawson.bsky.social whose Patreon I subscribe to (maybe you should, too). Mini-comics may be my favorite format to read, and his are consistently excellent.
