The more you know. We are all chimeras at a very small level. You likely have cells in your body from your mother and your siblings that were born before you. How this chimerism influences your immune system is beginning to be unraveled. #Science #ScienceSunday
Some of your cells are not genetically yours — what can they tell us about life and death?
A tiny population of cells that are passed across the placenta between mother and baby challenge basic tenets of human immunology.

It's New Year, so time to look back and forward. These are 10 things I think we need to recognise in 2026. It’s a response to what I think are profoundly damaging mistaken assumptions I’ve heard and read from practitioners, journalists, and analysts in 2025. Warning: very long🧵

an important read for at least 2 reasons:

1. shows how big tech operates on intuitions and vibes and not rigorous research

2. this is a masterpiece in how to breakdown complex scientific concepts in simple language and elegant pros that captivate the lay reader

Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
There is a rush for AI companies to team up with space launch/satellite companies to build datacenters in space. TL;DR: It's not going to work.

The dog got stopped by the police this morning for a stick that was too big (pissing themselves btw)...we couldn't slow down because the stick was heavy and it couldn't be relinquished before home

The piece where I get to say everything that's bugging me about the world of detecting & archaeology & ask - why are we not more concerned about this?

(Thank you to everyone who read through drafts & offered thoughts, advice and ideas.)

Early, early dog walk because someone doesn't understand daylight saving. Can hesitantly say it was worth it.
