The AmNews team is preparing our #BlackHistoryMonth special section launching online on Sunday, February 1. This year we mark "A Century of Black History Commemorations" honoring the 100th anniversary of the celebration initiated by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926.

The DHS Appropriations Bill (2018) requires ICE to make public all reports regarding in custody deaths within 90 days.

This sister did amazing work with those battling addiction and mental illness. She truly was a gem! Very sad to hear of her passing.
Shirley Raines, the visionary activist and founder of the nonprofit Beauty 2 The Streetz, has passed away at the age of 58. Affectionately known as "Ms. Shirley," she was found unresponsive in her Henderson, Nevada home on January 27, 2026, during a wellness check. RIP
