Volcano Bay will become cashless starting Feb. 25, Universal Orlando has announced. All purchases made in the park will only be made by credit card, debit card, Universal Pay, Universal gift cards or other tap to pay methods.

meet Josh D’Amaro new Disneyland Resort president By Lisa Greathouse Newly named Disneyland Resort President Josh D’Amaro uses the word “surreal” to describe the experience of returning to the place where he was first hired 20 years ago and seeing the faces of people he worked with at the start of his Disney career. “It’s strange to see so many familiar faces in a place that looks different, but feels the same at its core,” says Josh, who officially took the helm March 5. “There’s been so much expansion here that I can almost get lost inside the parks. And yet, I feel like I’m home.” Josh was born in Santa Monica in 1971, but grew up just outside of Boston with three siblings. He was instilled with a love of the arts by his mother. “I envisioned myself one day living in a loft in SoHo, painting and sculpting,” Josh says of his original career plans. But after his first year of college, he switched his major from art to business and marketing, ultimately following in his father’s footsteps. “I still love to draw,” Josh says. “When I’m taking notes in a meeting, you’ll often see me sketching.” Josh started his career at The Gillette Co. in Boston, but during a temporary stint in Los Angeles, he fell in love with Southern California, as did his high school sweetheart (who would later become his wife) . Shortly after Gillette asked him to return to Boston, he resigned and decided to send his resume to the Disneyland Resort. He figured it was the perfect place to merge his knack for business with his love for the arts — and his penchant for having fun. He landed a job in Operations Finance in 1998, and, over the next six years, rose through the ranks at the resort, becoming director of International Marketing and Sales and then Business Planning and Strategy Development. “I loved working here so much that I raised my hand for any project that came along — so people started taking chances on me,” Josh says. “I didn’t always know what I was doing, but I would figure it out.” In 2006, he was promoted to vice president for Sales and Travel Trade Marketing in Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, so his wife, their then-4-year-old son and newborn daughter moved to Asia, where they stayed until 2008. “Living in another country changes your perspective on the world,” he says. Josh’s career route took him to Disney Consumer Products, Adventures by Disney, and then Walt Disney World Resort, where he served as vice president of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Park and Resorts and Transportation and, most recently, as senior vice president, Commercial Strategy. Then, in January, he got a call from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek. “When Bob said, ‘I’d like you to be president of Disneyland,’ I was so stunned that I wasn’t sure I’d heard him correctly. I paused so long that he said, ‘Hello?’” Josh recalls with a laugh. “My heart started pounding and all I could say was, ‘This is a dream I’ve had for 20 years.’ I’ll remember that moment forever.” On Josh’s first day back, then-President Michael Colglazier (who has since begun his new role as president and managing director of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts – Asia Pacific) surprised Josh with a visit to Walt Disney’s apartment, where they had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup — a Walt favorite. “We sat there for four ours, talking about Walt and the business and what this job means. It’s an experience that’s also burned into my memory.” It’s been 12 years since Josh left the resort, and he’s excited by all of the growth. But he says his top priority will be Cast Members. “I have a lot to learn, but what I do know is that the Cast Members are what make the difference. All the new attractions and expansion are exciting, but the fabric that holds it together is happy Cast Members.” Former colleagues remember Josh as someone who worked hard but liked to have fun, too. He recalls “instigating” mini basketball tournaments in his cubicle — on a spring-loaded Hot Shot Basketball game. “I’ve always felt like this,” he says. “We work hard, but if you’re not also having fun with the people you work with, there’s probably a better way. After all, we’re in Disneyland! How can you not have fun?”

When I worked at the Field Museum, I was part of the team that designed and installed the fossil prep lab in Dinoland. It was wild to see the park months before opening and ride Countdown to Extinction! ☄️ Dinoland was fun, silly & filled with science! I loved it. I’ll excavate more photos soon! 🦖
