Decided to put some thoughts on paper for this "anniversary" of January 6th
Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn was on the front lines of January 6. Five years later, he warns the greatest threat isn’t just what happened—but the lies rewriting it. “January 6 was not legitimate political discourse.” Read his powerful piece: www.meidasplus.com/p/history-be...

I know it's post-Christmas, but this review of the historical and literary accuracy of The Muppet Christmas Carol by JDraper's London History Show is a delight. Hang in there for the last segment which explains how the 1840's basically invented our modern sense of Christmas!

NPR has launched a visual archive and searchable database dedicated to preserving the history of January 6, 2020. This is especially important since the administration deleted the government's Jan 6 database (NPR). Teach it to the children.

Pointing out who is dividing us, who is causing the suffering, doesn’t make me a divider. It just means I know who is hurting us and I don’t want to help them do that. Here’s to the good people in 2026.

If it's a horrible hot take about higher education in the NYT, you can pretty much assume it's Anemona Hartocollis.

Great thread by Don on the person who gives us awful take after awful take.
New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

So let me explain some pretty massive errors of omission: 🧵

Maybe, if you're not actually in university classrooms, teaching students in the age of gAI, perhaps you might want to stop and listen when people actually in those classrooms raise concerns about what they are seeing; and not just dismiss us as luddites, or boomers, or cruel profs playing cops

In this holiday season, I want to send my appreciation for everyone working a shift on Christmas or Christmas Eve. Our mom was in the hospital this week, so we had dinner at Norms last night and lunch at Farmer Boys today. Y'all were lifesavers during a difficult time. Thank you.

"Not only did it seem that city leaders had failed to recognize the magnitude of the crisis until one of their own had died, they had also made those bearing the brunt of the pandemic feel responsible for their own demise."
ProPublica Managing Editor @gingerthompson.bsky.social set out to write a David-vs.-Goliath narrative about Albany, Georgia’s response to COVID-19.

But she realized there were more enduring questions and challenges facing Albany. They were about race and power.
I Started Covering the COVID-19 Crisis in Albany, Georgia. This Moment Made Me Realize There Was a Bigger Story to Tell.
The virus had killed about 38 people, most of them Black, by April 2020. But when a white judge died, local officials made sure to announce her name.
