Add: the mass extinction of species, including key species, which could lead to extinction of the human species.

No amount of survivalist training will make up for lack of resources. No billions of dollars can rewild a key species if it has no habitat. We can adapt, but we have our limits.

Most people think that the ClimateCrisis is about the world getting hotter. Here’s what it’s really about:

Global Famine
Never-ending Economic Depression
Mass Death from heat, natural disasters
Mass Death from global war

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

NEW: Multiple reports of Russian missiles pouring into Ukraine tonight, targeting civilians.

The US has shut off the intelligence Ukraine needs to protect itself.

This hotel in the southern city of Kryvyi Rih took a direct hit.

Trump has the blood on his hands of every Ukrainian casualty tonight.

Now would be the perfect time for European states to get together, say "thank you to America for everything you have done since 1941, but times have changed", and then go off and commit themselves alone to help Ukraine achieve victory as soon as possible.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

fun fact: we haven't adopted solar in part because it's so cheap, energy companies aren't able to make money off it, and they have a fiduciary duty to make business decisions that will not adversely affect profit.

while it is a more nuanced situation, I personally feel this is the main reason.

Fun fact: did you know that effort, policy, campaigning and activism directed towards climate change results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions and lower fossil fuel use

Giving fossil fuel fatalism the middle finger works really nicely :) :)

Air conditioning access and *use* is an equity issue for climate adaptation, and good for Oregon for doing this. Here’s our paper looking at air conditioning needs across income groups under climate change. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Oregon is shipping air conditioners, air purifiers and power banks to some of its most vulnerable residents, a first-in-the-nation experiment to use Medicaid money to prevent the potentially deadly health effects of extreme heat, wildfire smoke and other climate-related disasters.
Oregon Medicaid patients get air conditioning, mini fridges as climate change drives health concerns

@lauriewinkless.bsky.social thank you! made me think
that black holes of galaxies builds on friction. Materia rips
through space time friction and black matter. Is universe crunching by friction?
