Solidarity Alliance
@solidarityalliance.bsky.social
A meeting place for progressive organizing - where activists, workers, and movement builders work together to strategize, change policy, win elections, provide mutual aid, and learn from each other.

We organize. We fight. We win.
Like ‘No Other Land’, this doc does not have a US distributor. What are these bastions of free speech so afraid of? Knowledge?

@runforsomething.net and be true to yourself. When someone tries to tell you that purity tests are bad, ask them specifically what you should compromise on.
Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to @runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.

Organizing 101. Get involved, if not in NYC, then in your library, or school district, or county board. There are so many beautiful, bright, empathetic, passionate Americans who actually want the best for all Americans, not just the ones who already have power and wealth.
The greatest tool working people have to win dignity, power and respect is organizing.

So proud to stand with labor as your Democratic nominee for Mayor of New York City.

Time to Take Action!
I wrote about the confusion created by disgruntled voters who believe that voting is enough, and the trouble many have visualizing an alternative. Fear, frustration, and the work of those who came before us are not an excuse to promote inaction or resignation. prismreports.org/2025/06/03/i...

#OtD 21 May 1941 a strike began of actors in Norway after 6 actors (inc pictured) were sacked for refusing to do radio work for the Nazis. The strike shut all theatres in Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim and lasted 5 weeks despite Gestapo repression stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9415...

I love this source so much. Listen to the podcast in the car with your kids. Normalize strikes, unions, solidarity, and mutual aid.
#OtD 21 May 1946 the US government took over the bituminous coal mines to try to break a six-week miners' strike. The miners held out, forcing the govt to grant workers' demands which had been unacceptable to the operators. More info in this book: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...

It always comes down to solidarity.
We keep us safe.
This week's episode of Movement Memos is for activists and organizers who need to think about safety and security planning during these times (and that's all of us). I am grateful to Che Johnson-Long for this thoughtful, caring, and practical conversation. Audio + transcript:
We Live in Fearful Times. Our Safety Comes Through Preparing Together.
“Now is the time to be bold and audacious,” says community safety organizer Che Johnson-Long.

Stay active! Stay motivated! Everything helps.
There are things every one of us can do in our daily lives to help ensure free and fair elections — and, in doing so, limit Trump’s power. Some actions are small — so small that you might dismiss them as unimportant. Don’t. Every important journey begins with a single step.
We Have More Power Than Trump Wants Us To Believe — Here's What You Can Do
From Marc | Here is a list of what each of us can do to stand up for democracy and defend our elections.

"...for protests to succeed, they must be backed by movements with the ability to promise to withhold—labor, debt payments, rent payments, or consumer support—and to follow through if demands aren’t met."

This is why #MutualAid is essential in every community. Volunteer, find your people, do anything.
I'm particularly worried about immigrant families who need help but stay away from food pantry events out of fear of ICE showing up.
Watching food banks announce shortages, journalists reporting soon-to-be-empty grocery store shelves, farm workers being deported, likely SNAP cuts, and USDA no longer safely inspecting much of our food, I'm worried we are about to see millions of hungry Americans. How can we feed them?

Report for duty! We can do this!
Folks, please read this document about in-person strike card commitments if you’re concerned about the digital version!

It’s not us (GSUS) who is leading this, it’s ALL of us. The only way this works is if people jump in and get to work.

“It is not that America lacks courage. It is just that we’ve become so cut off from one another - so atomized and isolated - that many of us feel alone. That loneliness makes us feel vulnerable and fearful.”

A strike requires community. People to rely on. It seems hard now, but we WILL get there.
The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased. Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power. Without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless. Some thoughts... https://robertreich.substack.com/p/sunday-thought-69d
