Meanwhile, people unconstitutionally seized or brutalized by ICE agents can’t sue them because there’s no private right of action for them to do that.
Buried inside the deal to reopen government is a provision that would give Senators private right of action to sue for millions in damages over their phone records being analyzed by Jack Smith's team.

Would any game devs out there like to tell their story on @pastduepodcast.com? Any indie developer who fans would like to hear from?
Many freelancers in the United States rely on ACA marketplace plans for their health insurance. In an industry that has already been working overtime to turn gamedevs into gig workers, freelance and contract devs are about to get even more squeezed. This is unacceptable.

I don’t knows about third terms and all that, but anyone who thinks the next set of national elections will be held fairly, or the results respected if it doesn’t go the GOPs way is as delusional as the 8 dems that sold out the party for a pinky promise last night.
“Anyone who helps me try to steal an election gets a pardon” is perhaps the most corrupt thing to happen in American history.
That “conservatives” have simply accepted this as the price of admission is the greatest moral and intellectual humiliation.

Yup, and the damage isn’t so much in the story as in the proof of weakness. Trump now knows he has new torture tools to make Dems do what he wants. It’s why at least one of the 7 capitulators oughta be run out of office now, mid session. Get that number down to 6. www.offmessage.net/p/16-thought...

This is the message of a failed, feckless, and leaderless party. We need a party with backbone, and the only path to it is through a cleansing primary season. If your Dem is up for reelection, and you aren't damn sure they're fighting the fascists with everything they've got, primary the bastard.

I don't have the expertise to engage in today's analysis of whether or not the dems folding is chess or checkers. But what I do know, is that the whole charade feels like shit, and that matters.

I imagine what actually scared them into caving was the threat of Trump getting Republicans to actually eliminate the filibuster

And to ensure this is the case I will continue to refresh my bsky feed into the night…
We'll see, but the degree of immediate blowback, and how many other Dems immediately jumped onboard trashing it loudly, makes me think this might end up a failed attempt to cave. Overestimated their ability to hold enough Dem votes.
Thing about being spineless is you can be pushed either way.

in any case it is wild that voters just sent a huge message and a bunch of senate democrats are all, “it doesn’t look like anything to me”

Exactly. Moderates keep framing the return of something illegally stopped as a “win.” Congrats, you’ve confirmed it’s good fascist politics to keep doing crimes.
if they were going to cave anyway they should’ve done it a week ago to spare SNAP recipients the agony.

We polled Indivisible members over the weekend on whether Dems should take a deal or keep fighting for the ACA subsidies. Results: 98.67% said keep fighting.
Dems who vote to surrender now are fracturing their own party in a way that will reverberate loudly in the primaries.

So Democrats get:
1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays
2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail
3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts
Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

My beef with all of this is that “assurances” don’t mean anything to these guys. They’ve been violating laws, norms, and everything in between since January. Throwing healthcare under the bus for a Mike Johnson handshake? Unserious

“No RIFs permitted” is just laughable, the administration is just going to do what they want anyway
Here's the full text of the deal:
- House CR extended to January 30, no RIFs permitted until then
- Minibus
- Ds get a filibusterable ACA vote in December

The number of videos/pictures I’ve seen of untrained ICE thugs pointing guns at civilians—usually while they are brutalizing another person—is shocking.

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.
It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.

Video on social media shows an immigration agent pulling a gun in Little Village and holding it to the side — which is not an appropriate or safe way to hold a gun. (Among other issues.)

My reviewing style has changed over time. Rather than litigate every little thing, and pushing my own ideas, I focus only on 2 things:
(1) Are the claims interesting/important?
(2) Does the evidence support the claims?
Most of my reviews these days are short and focused.
