I waited a day to say this bc I respected everyone's right to vent some anger, but *remember to focus on what you can do*. Whether it's defending your community, taking action around what you've been venting about, whatever — but don't let all of your energy get captured in the social media space.

Gough raised unemployment benefits to their highest level relative to poverty - then Fraser (and his treasurer John Howard) fucked it up as soon as they could.

Hawke/Keating repaired some of the damage... then Howard fucked it up for good

Inpex quietly admitted that its Ichthys LNG project drastically underreported its emissions of the cancer-causing chemical benzene by more than 13,000%.

The gas industry is continuing to harm our health and our climate, yet our governments are failing to act.

The ALP didn't bother negotiating with the Libs when it changed IR laws, but now apparently it needs LNP support for environmental protection changes.

When govts want to do something, they do it.
When they don't, they use bipartisanship as the excuse.

No one here should fall for it

I’ve said this elsewhere, but this is just down the road from me ~ the risk areas cover most of the Darwin area
Inpex has been under-reporting cancer-causing emissions from its Icthys LNG plant in Darwin, as reported this week in The Australian.

The people of Darwin deserve answers, and real action to protect their health.

Less than 2 weeks until publication. I’m still busy as hell working in concert with my community to respond to a federal invasion and regular attacks on our neighbors and their defenders. Any help getting the word out about this book, which I believe can help us all right now, is deeply appreciated.
My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

A First Nations story.
‘The way that the media deals with the climate is it’s an environmental story and it’s a future story. Whereas this is a housing story, a cost-of-living story, an inequality story, a role of government story…’

There's no point in our governments setting 'ambitious' emissions reduction targets if they won't actually take reducing emissions seriously.

Expanding fossil fuels and relying on bogus carbon credits is NOT taking it seriously.

Fuck everyone who was filming and did not physically intervene.

You gotta move past this passivity of ‘recording’ and plan in your groups around direct action responses *and* recording

Incredible timing, as I was just talking with a friend tonight about how we actually have the opposite where we are, and it’s a major issue

To the point that for a vigil for a recent death in custody, a couple of environmental groups said “this isn’t appropriate for us to share or talk about”

Firstly, this is mostly not a thing when you are talking $3m+ super. But also the tax changes are hardly onerous.

People don’t just ‘become unresponsive’ while in custody..

And minimising torture by describing it as a ‘hurdle’ of “prolonged detention”
Queensland police are investigating a death of a 41-year-old man in custody at the Brisbane watch house on the weekend.
Police say the man from Zillmere was arrested on on Jul 16 over an outstanding warrant.
3 days later he "became unresponsive"
