The local telephone exchange that serves the Heald Green area of the Manchester director area is called "Mercury" because the letters HEA were already in use for HEAton Moor, so MERcury was used instead because HG - the initials of Heald Green - is the chemical symbol for the element mercury.
Ok folks: what is your favorite fact that you share with people (maybe a bit too) eagerly?

Right, 12 hours left of the year in the GMT area. Better go and do something...

Soon will be heading off to North Wales (although a slightly different venue this year) for our annual "play ALL the board games" NYE extravaganza - the 11th year we've done so, global pandemics notwithstanding.

Long may the tradition continue.

Thirty years ago today. The most beautiful, hopeful farewell.
31 December 1995. Still the perfect goodbye.

A very happy birthday to radio and podcast presenter sans pareil, author extraordinaire, fellow rememberer of "News At 12", and all round jolly good egg - yes, it's your own, your very own @benbaker.bsky.social

Still pissed off about this even after a night's sleep 😡
Not gonna lie, I'm pissed off I only came second in my Brain of Music match tonight, and by ONE SODDING POINT too.
Talked myself out of an answer I should have rightly gone for, and got wrong-footed on picking up a guess.

I mean, I know it's not important in the grand scheme, but y'know...

Actually physically bumped into Andy Crane when walking round the corner of Corporation Street into Market Street in Manchester city centre. We both apologised and went on our way and I only realised who it was about 20 seconds later.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

I've lost count of how long I've actually had this watch for, but it's nice to know that it still works after every battery change.
One slight problem, the year count only goes up to 2029... we reset to 1985 after that! #casio #casioworldtime

May I also, in case you're not aware of it, suggest my previous book #DontStopTheMusic, a calendar of pop history for every single day of the year, yes even 29 February.

Out in paperback and described by Jonathan Coe, no less, as 'A brilliant musical almanac'!
