An unexpected topic I encountered during my PhD: tricellular junctions.

I first knew them as local regulators of tissue mechanics, but over time have realised their broader impact at the tissue scale.

I wrote a brief overview of this in a thread for @epimechfc.bsky.social.
How can structures at the vertex of 3 cells have effects at the tissue level?

Join me, @laura-rustarazo.bsky.social, to explore how tricellular junctions (TCJs) act as local tension sensors and regulators of global tissue organization. 🧵⤵️ doi.org/10.1126/scie...

Lots of problems with multi year funding mechanism. Far fewer grants can be funded and they can only be funded for 4, not 5 years even though most grants funded by the normal mechanism are 5 years. It’s a back door way for Russell Vought to choke off science funding
At least prior to 2025, you could expect all years on your grant (barring major issues).

The main problem with MYF is the rapid transition absent an NIH budget increase. We can pay 4 grants for 1 year, or only 1 grant for 4 years. Under MYF, we can pay far fewer grants (1 instead of 4).

Endothelial protein C receptor CD201 is a better marker than stem cell antigen-1 to identify mouse long-term reconstituting hematopoietic stem cells following septic challenge
Stem cell antigen 1 (SCA1) has been used for decades to separate mouse hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell subsets; however, it fails to do so when mice are challenged by pathogens, interferons, or...

In particular, I looked a those award where the title of the grant changed.

Warning: The results are just what I expected, but oooph...
