📣 New preprint 📣

We present a detailed map of nascent and mature ribosomal RNAs in mouse hematopoiesis and AML (including absolute rRNA molecule numbers), and outline principles of rDNA regulation.

Work by Eleanor Sams (@eleanor44.bsky.social) & Victoria Feist (@victoriafeist.bsky.social). (1/x)
Dynamics of Ribosomal RNA Transcription and Abundance in Normal and Leukemic Hematopoiesis
Transcription of ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) from rDNA repeats is the first step of ribosome biogenesis, accounting for a major portion of all cellular transcription. Often regarded as a housekeeping proce...

If you’ve heard me talk in the past ~5 years, you will know I have developed an obsession with acrocentric chromosomes. This is all of that, condensed into one paper. I will do a full thread in the new year, but for those that want something to read over the holidays, have at it. Such a cool story!

So great to connect at ASH with Jing Luan, who was a technician in the lab of Mitch Weiss (working with me when I was post-doc there), then an MD/PhD student in the lab of Gerd Blobel, and who will begin her Heme-Onc fellowship at Dana Farber next year!

I've been making small donations to Wikipedia for many years. Given the enormous service that it provides to all of us, it's in our collective interest to keep it smoothly running.
I take Wikipedia for granted. Reading this Jimmy Wales interview reminded me in our Fantasyland age what a remarkable and important creation it is. True pillar of civilization. Runs on only $200 million a year. Requires our support. So I’m finally donating. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/m...

Most of us wouldn't be able to tell that this blot is fake! We're headed towards a topsy-turvy future. 😵‍💫
Finally the scary example. The image of a western blot with a time course experiment, staining a protein of interest, showing the increase of protein over time and a second staining with a control antibody that does not change over time

Hope this terrible law isn't passed by Congress...
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”
