I still hang out with my literal first friend whom I met outside our house when I was four years old, and I'm 40 now.
watching John Green talk about his buddy from high school who is still his friend and I’m curious, is that common for people on here?

It's funny, watching the all Mad Max movies - as much as George Miller talks about Max being more folk tale, mythology, whatever, rather than having a strict continuity, that's not really an apparent or necessary context in, at least, the first 3. They feel in very direct continuity.

I don't really need to see more from Control: Resonant, I'm in by default. Regardless of troubling news about Remedy lately, those seem more like concerns for games past Resonant.

Ended up having a chat with someone who knows their shit, and yeah, this is the same kind of automated upscaling, basically inferring data "between" the existing pixels, that's been used for a decade+.

I think it was a mistake to put it under "AI Generated Content Disclosure." It muddies things.
So, this is from the Steam page for Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered. And obviously, the first reaction is "ew no" but then, what does "AI-assisted tools" even MEAN here? Is it actually generative AI, or some machine-learning tool that WASN'T trained on stolen data? The label is meaningless.

Yea, I get it. That’s why I find it important to combat when I see miss-use of AI to bash all forms of “AI”. It’s algorithmic, it’s
Just a line of code trying its best.

Upscaling cant replace anyone, atleast whose love is “upgrading 240x240” textures. Which hey, someone does I’m sure

*sign* ai-upscaling has been around for 15 years. This tech is not new, not generative, and yes does need artists to clean up cause yea, it produces mess results.

It was used evey single aspyr remaster and is a super easy way to get a texture up to a specific resolution and saves half the work.

And right now, very publicly ceasing vaccine research - PHASE 3, which is damn near the finish line. Who needs grand conspiracies? They're not hiding the vaccine for Epstein-Barr, they're telling you it was almost ready but they just don't see enough money it in anymore.
As a chemical engineer working in pharma, it's so fucking frustrating to see all the bullshit "Big Pharma" conspiracy theories, from anti-vax to "they're hiding the cure for X" when the real crime is right in front of you: Making massive profits on life-saving meds while leaving poor people to die.

Capitalism and medicine are an abominable combination.

Talking about ROI for fucking vaccines is monstrous. I genuinely wish ill on every pharmaceutical C-suite.

And let's be clear: these companies aren't starving. They make plenty of money.
In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

Obviously, getting original VO cast for Ascendance is a good start - we were all there 80 % for the story and acting, anyway. The question is - CAN they nail the dialogue? Because as Blood Omen 2 shows, it's not a universal writing skill.
As you might be able to tell from how much time I'm giving Defiance vs. the other games, I'm still not over this series, despite my significant issues with the remake of the first two games.

LoK: Ascendance, though... Same reservations as with Sons of Sparta. We'll see.

I think one of the biggest mistakes we ever made was allowing the idea that the internet isn't Real perpetuate. Because that's what allows all this AI shit to thrive. "It's the internet, what do you expect?" The left being full of the "terminally online" while things like Pepe the Frog exist.

Edmund's dismissal of this is galling but not surprising. When people get lots of money, they tend to go a bit... off.

In this age, being "centrist" is basically tacitly endorsing the far-right (and ignoring the valid concerns of the left).

I just threw on The Madness of Max DVD that was part of the box set. I figured, oh, it has its own disc, I guess it's like a hour or something?

It's two hours and 30 minutes, holy shit.

I know Netflix is shit, but I didn't realize they've *never* done a physical release of Glass Onion. I shouldn't be surprised; I guess I just didn't classify it as a "Netflix Original Movie" in my head, even though it obviously is. Wouldn't want to cut into those streams. No hope for WUDM, then.

And you can get it free, because no one sells it. Link nested two quote-skeets deep.

I marvel at someone in the movie business looking at this uninspired piece of moving pixel collage and despairing because they managed to convincingly stuff a couple famous faces in it.
