In other words: If AI does one thing well, it's making explicit what «being human» means under current conditions. The answer cannot lie in a return to a supposedly universal humanism, but rather in a radical critique of these conditions that understands the role of AI systems in maintaining them

This is exactly it. The concept of a LLM doesn't need to be mediated via an identity. It could just be clippy, or something closer to a print out. The current UI both makes C3P0 seem way closer than is actually the case and attempts to drive product uptake through hacking our desire to engage.
I think the interesting thing - and the point which can't be made enough, alas - is that it's a tool designed to confuse people who don't understand how the tool works (the opposite of classic UI design, right?) That is not something that can be shrugged off for a mass market tool.
