Hope Denmark has seen the consequences of selling the Virgin Islands to the USA back in 1917. Danish colonial history and part in trans-Atlantic slave trading is grim enough already.

Because the woman below survived, the Federal government was obligated to charge her with the crime she was allegedly committing when shot, meaning they had to investigate it. That investigation showed she was innocent.
Since Ms Good did not survive, they don't need to investigate what she did.

As a reminder: this happened here in Chicago, though without loss of life. ICE agents shot an observer/protester in her car. They initially claimed she illegally threatened ICE officers with her car.
All charges were eventually dropped, with prejudice.
