Off to get bus to Hingham - where Abraham Lincoln's ancestors came from -as I'll be visiting in mid-Norfolk over the next few days. I sort of wish I'd stayed at home as it's such a hassle!

Just finished [dom] a book I've been reading in the library since 18th Aug- The Awakening, Charles Freeman. What a great survey of the revival of ideas/learning in Europe after the end of the Roman Empire. Not sure how far we've come since 1700 however! www.goodreads.com/book/show/51... 💡📚 #booksky

Really enjoying #wildflowerhour tonight. There’s something particularly plucky and cheerful about plants blooming on the shortest day of the year #wintersolstice

Balanophora looks like a mushroom, but it’s a rule-breaking parasitic plant that ditched photosynthesis and lives off tree roots. New work shows how its cellular machinery has been stripped down—yet still functions—highlighting just how flexible evolution can be. #Botany #Evolution #Science

Nipah is a dangerous illness, as deadly as Ebola.

I first heard of Nipah from Malaysia, where the virus was identified. It’s named after Sungai Nipah, the Nipah River. South India is another area that Nipah outbreaks have happened, including cases earlier this year in Kerala.
