I hope this man's political career is over because this is the most disqualifying thing I have heard in a long time.
Mayor Jeff Leal briefly raised the prospect of Peterborough being an attractive spot for an AI data centre to be built due to its proximity to so much available water in the area.

A 2023 report found that for every $1 invested in Canada’s urban libraries, $6 is generated in community economic impact (a 600%+ return). These are direct economic benefits to the community in addition to the social value the library provides, especially our downtown branch.

The fact that the library has to make cuts at all is unfortunate. The underfunding of our library system by City Council is shortsighted when study after study shows the (quantifiable) return on investment to be significantly high, let alone the intangible benefits of investing in public libraries.
