Oh, hmm, cool.
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

This is 1000% about loss prevention, not “making stores more hospitable.”
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Glassdoor sends me construction job listings, particularly those related to masonry, daily. I didn’t request this, but I can’t bring myself to stop it. Too weird. Maybe it’s a sign?

What happened in libraries during Banned Books Week?

Turns out, there was a lot of banning of Banned Books Week, period.

A look at what happened across the country and why.

That, plus this week's *extensive* book censorship news.

New plan: writing a check to a local food bank instead of buying Halloween candy. This feels like the best way to love my neighbors right now. ❤️
Thinking about going out for a nice dinner Oct. 31 instead of buying Halloween candy. We’ve put in enough years of service to take a break and leave the porch light off this year, right?

City of LaVergne offices shut down Friday after a “cybersecurity incident” and have yet to reopen. TV news mentioned it early this week, and the DNJ published a little story that went no deeper than the press release. Seems like this would be a bigger story to someone.

All of this is the most foreseeable, avoidable, unnecessary disaster in sports in my lifetime. It’s ruining fandom, it’s harming players, it’s robbing bettors of everything they have, and it’s being not only allowed but *pushed* upon audiences by the leagues and their media partners.

Watching and hearing kids play music often brings me to tears. Today reading about it did the same.
Wright Middle School’s mariachi ensemble plays shows all over Nashville. On Thursday, they’ll open for Jason Isbell at the Ryman. Along the way, they’ve learned to play with pride from Maikel Rodriguez, who wants them to embrace their talent.
