With #Sinners back in theaters today, thought I'd reshare the article I wrote about the Choctaw Vampire Hunters and why that moment didn't NEED to be centered more even tho we would all love to see more of their story.

Sinners Gives Us Vampires, Music, and a Moment of Indigenous Power We Can’t Ignore
Set in 1932 Mississippi, Sinners is a haunting, atmospheric tale rooted in the music, spirituality, kinship, and resilience of Black Southern communities. But Coogler threads a deeper, more violent cu...

Killing people we disagree with is wrong in every way, whether it’s Melissa Hortman or Charlie Kirk. This is especially true in a country awash with guns and run by fascists looking to amplify their already militarized policies.

No thoughts and prayers. Down with fascism and up with gun control.

Holy shit. This legit gave me chills.

Texas State Rep. Ann Johnson clapped back at GOP members amid Wednesday's redistricting vote.

WHITE WOMEN, this is the model. We have more power than others. We are the last to be silenced. We have a responsibility to SPEAK so others are HEARD.

The burden of paperwork—not actual eligibility issues—will cause many to lose health ins (Medicaid) soon and we must see through this paperwork bs wherever it shows up (even our liberal leaders). Baltimoreans should absolutely make it as easy as possible for our city workers to get health insurance.

Felicity's story of navigating friendship and the tea boycott is burned into my brain as one of my first exposures to the need for creativity in protest, and helped cement in me the importance of standing up for my values, even in the face of social consequences. This brings me such joy!
I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.

While of course I personally believe we should Free Them All, I think we need to have some (multiple! many!) ideas of how to bridge the genuine horror people are experiencing at Kilmar's case and the message that no human deserves CECOT.
This right here. Spreading "perfect victim" or "innocence" narratives is dangerous and cedes ground on the fact that *all* people deserve dignity, humane treatment, and access to due process. Feeding into perfect victim or innocence narratives isn't just irresponsible messaging, it is copaganda.
It is really bothering me (understatement) that the message is “bring back that one innocent guy” and not “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SHUT DOWN THIS WHOLE OPERATION IMMEDIATELY.”
