This new ECB paper serves as a reference guide to ECB models and empirical benchmarks on monetary policy transmission and extensively reports the findings of our recent meta-analysis on the effects of conventional monetary policy on output and prices.

We have a new paper on the overstated effects of conventional monetary policy on output and prices. Results reported in the literature are plagued by p-hacking and publication bias, leading to inflated effect sizes of how interest rate hikes affect output and prices.

Research by IMF economists shows that the rise and fall of inflation in advanced economies since 2020 has mostly been driven by supply shocks (energy, food, supply chains). Macroeconomic conditions "played a secondary role".

Astonishing: 3% of UK people take 30% of all flights

According to a new report, these ultra-frequent-flyers, UFFs (>6 flights/yr) were responsible for 63% of new passenger traffic over the last 20 years.

New infrastructure is largely fulfilling the carbon burning habits of this tiny minority
We need a frequent flyer tax not a 3rd LHR runway.

2.8% of UK people are ultra-frequent flyers, 6+ flights/year,
7.7% are frequent 3+ , 17.1% regular 2+
& 72.4% fly once or never in a year.
📊NEW ANALYSIS📊
Just 3% of the UK population take 30% of the fights. When this government expands UK airports, this 3% benefit the most.

Who are these people? Introducing... the ultra-frequent flyer. Our research with Possible. 1/5

Journalists found that the Finnish finance ministry selectively cited @heimbergecon.bsky.social & my study on growth effects of corporate tax cuts to back their claim of a high self-financing effect of planned measure. Our main finding is inconsistent with this claim. doi.org/10.1016/j.eu...

Economist @sgechert.bsky.social brings much-needed sense to the current policy discussions in Finland regarding the Orpo government's decision to lower the corporate tax rate from 20% to 18%.
Finnish Finance Ministry misunderstood my research, says German tax researcher
German economics Professor Sebastian Gechert told Yle that he was "a little annoyed" the ministry did not use the main finding from his study.
