I gave up on Twitter awhile ago, and left the platform when I felt like my feed was filled with bots and propaganda I had zero interest in engaging with. I was waiting for an alternative to pop back up, so I'm here to check it out.

I'm a Canadian from Ottawa, interested in local news.

'Made-up quote' in Canadian satire site The Beaverton fools Time Magazine | CBC News
In a recent article about the United States' strained relationships with other countries, Time Magazine included a made-up quote from Canadian satire site The Beaverton — seemingly as fact.

So cool they discovered the cause of autism on basically day they guessed they would. I’m also glad they are withholding this information for a few days to prep for a WrestleMania-style announcement. This is how science works.

COMING UP: Judge Charles Breyer is set to preside over a bench trial in Newsom v. Trump

The suit, brought by Governor Gavin Newsom, challenges Trump’s use of federal military forces to enforce immigration in California.

I plan to live-post for @lawfaremedia.org.

A common refrain I see on social media is that if you can't boycott perfectly, why boycott at all? After all I'm still on Bluesky which is American!

A boycott doesn't have to be perfect to be successful. Collective action works one purchase at a time. And we're still going #elbowsup #Canada

My two cents on the Digital Services Tax and the ongoing trade war... #Canada #CdnPoli

I am, like I suspect a lot of Canadians are, burnt out.

I'm not happy, but I'm a lot more worried about concessions that are harder to reverse.

Oh, and the boycott is still on. #BuyCanadian

First Canada Day I'm going to spend in Downtown Ottawa since before the Freedom Convoy.

This has been a messy year, but looking forward to wandering around my neighbourhood and seeing the crowded seas of red.

Bit wild to see people on some social media bring up the unemployment rate in Canada right now without mentioning the tariff war.

Expect a big shift to "sectoral" tariffs in next few days, now that country-wide tariffs struck down
Trump admin has been signaling for a while that it intended to rely more heavily on this tariff authority (Section 232), presumably b/c it might be easier to defend in court

*Sector-based tariffs (lumber, steel, copper, and more tk including chips, pharmaceuticals etc) use a different authority, Section 232, which are unaffected by this ruling

Re Terrebonne... I trust the process. Rules should be applied fairly regardless of who won.

The process is working as intended and isn't over yet.

Pretty much at the point of ignoring the Magna Carta
Stephen Miller says they are “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, which is only allowed when the US has been invaded or during an insurrection, which would not allow people to challenge their incarceration in court if they are arrested and detained.

Is it just me? I don't really like the idea of one of those dreadful Oval Office visits, where Trump can ramble about 51st state in front of the camera.

Trump feeds off the reality tv energy, and I'm not sure what it accomplishes.

I guess I'll find out if I need to eat my words here.
I find it implausible that the party would support him if he loses his own seat.

And the cons have that handy process for replacing their leaders that Pierre himself is very familiar with given what happened to O'Toole
