This is a tough thing to face. But on the left we *must* uphold the standards we preach. It concerns me that this is the only article by a leftist I've yet read that handles the issue honestly. Otherwise I've seen only tortured apologetics & gross hypocrisy. www.europe-solidaire.org/spip.php?art...

Unhook ourselves from oil and gas and we unhook ourselves from dependency on dictators, autocrats and expansionist regimes all over the planet.
Renewables and other low-carbon energy sources are not just good climate sense. They are also good political sense.

Humans have emitted 2750 gigatons of CO2 since the industrial revolution from burning fossil fuels and land use change. To put this in perspective, this is more than the (dry) mass of all living things on earth and everything humans have ever built combined:

What would you prefer as your legacy: 3 meters sea-level rise or #AMOC shutdown?
For me the answer is neither. Let's get out of fossil fuels fast enough to minimise both of these very real risks.

Greenland’s melt is expected to slow the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, but research suggests a collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet could in some cases prevent it from shutting down

It looks like 2025 will end up at about 1.47°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it likely the third hottest year in the last 120,000+ years.

Meanwhile, the 3-year running average is going to end the year above 1.50°C for the first time.
