Welcome to ROV SuBastian Divestream 529! This is the first dive of our cruise Octopus Odyssey! We are diving on Dorado Outcrop off of Costa Rica, where an Octopus Garden was discovered in 2013. During this discovery, an estimated one hundred female octopuses were found brooding their eggs together in low temperature hydrothermal vents, a phenomenon that scientists have never seen before. We are here to better understand the hydrogeology, microbiology, ecology, and geochemistry of this region that may facilitate this fascinating behavior.
