Another thing about social media that I have no patience for is how much it has demonized liking things.

You'll get called a "shill", "sell out", or get accused if "defending big corporations" for the crime of having fun and getting some enjoyment out of existing media.

Constant exposure to social media and now AI slop is one of the worst things to happen to humanity as a whole.

We are worse off as a species for it. The damage to critical thinking and reading comprehension alone will be felt for a long time.

I think film nerds just like to complain for the sake of complaining and to sound important. Or they're mad that their specific tastes aren't being pandered to.

I've been hearing some variation of "cinema is dying" for the past twenty years, if not sooner.

Every time there's a new trend or the general audience tastes' shift, film nerds loudly proclaim that "cinema is dying", only for movies to keep making money.

*looks around*

Because talking about original movies will never give them the attention that bitching endlessly about blockbusters will.

I'm here to tell them, as a former film student, 99% of the world's population will ever care about Battleship Potemkin or the French New Wave.
See because you are smart and actually like movies and want to LOOK for it. These film bros don't want to do that.

I watch more "original" movies than blockbusters and not one blockbuster got in my way.

The real issue I have with that originality take is that it's just a bullshit disguise for their real thought which is "I don't like these movies and wish popular movies catered to my tastes".
They should give that take up for eternity but they won't because it's instant clickbait just like all of the takes about anything Marvel, CGI, Box office™️, etc.

2026 is gonna have Spider-Man, Supergirl, Mario, Toy Story, Minions, Dune, Avengers, Mandalorian, Jumanji, The Odyssey, and a Michael Jackson biopic. If "Originality" people didn't have a rude awakening YET....

Those film analysts need to give up that "audiences want originality" take because that corpse has been in the ground for a while.
In 2025, out of the 20 top ten movies worldwide, only TWO movies (Sinners, Weapons) are legitimate originals.

Everything else is an IP/adaptation of something else.

And that includes F1 and OBAA (racing culture/brand, Thomas Pynchon novel adaptation).
