At the advent of Trumpism, many conservative pundits asked, "Why is the GOP abandoning conservatism? Conservatism is about personal freedom and pragmatism, not populist mobs! Where did this wholly different thing come from?"

MAGA isn't a deviation from conservatism, but the apotheosis of it. /1

BASH: One of the concerns is that Elon Musk has billions tied up in govt contracts. You don't see a conflict of interest?

CHRIS SUNUNU: Everyone has a conflict of interest

BASH: But that's a pretty big one

Everyone thinks they're going to find a "good" billionaire.

Folks...it's the billions that fuck you up.
tell me if you've heard this one before: a billionaire gets upset for being criticized for saying stupid things on social media, then confidentially concludes the problem is most certainly everybody else

I was just thinking to myself, "It's so overblown that the left actually tries to cancel comedians for failing purity tests..."

This is a 600-word article from what was essentially a single crack in the middle of a podcast about other things. Mother Jones is becoming its own caricature.

I'd like to offer a distinction on something I heard on The @davidfrum.bsky.social Show, a podcast and host whom I deeply respect.

On the most recent episode, Frum and Helen Lewis discussed the apparent move of comedy to the right. In the discussion, they mentioned...

Apparently, being a sell-out is just fine.

It’s just being a *centrist* sell-out that makes you Matt fucking Yglasias, amirite?
Ezra is like a data center. Once you get him there, you won't have resources for anything else.

My Trumper family member said nothing this Christmas about the increased tariffs-related prices he’s paying…

..but was sure to bitch about not getting a state version of Trump’s overtime tax deduction.

At bottom, he knows he’s cherry-picking but does not care.

We agree on more than we think.

Ask any voter, and they’d agree that liberal institutions are insufferable and radical change is needed.

They’d further agree that the gov’t should give ppl like them direct economic benefit.

They’d further agree that ppl not like them should be disadvantaged.

I just noticed that, for my entire life, stories featuring Democrats have all begun, “Democrats urge…” while stories featuring the GOP have all begun, “Republicans stop…”

You can’t reconcile with people who want to see you suffer.

How about, this Christmas, we call for triumph over anyone who would brutalize, bully, marginalize, invade, imprison, rob of a job, rob of food, or rob of healthcare, just because it feels fun?

Merry Christmas!

I’ve notice several PR bot accounts are now trying to paint Clinton as a good guy in the wake of his appearance in the Epstein photos.

I’m assuming he’s paying for this out of pocket, but I didn’t think he had that kind of bankroll anymore.

I mean, yeah Bill Clinton said release the files, but I wouldn’t start backing his horse juuuuuust yet.

Shit’s not gonna work out well for that dude.

If you count the Sinclair properties, the Larry Ellison properties, WaPo, NYT, Facebook, X, and soon to be TikTok USA, there’s very little media left that ISN’T either de facto state run, or owned by those having other business before state agencies.

It’s pretty much over.
CBS is now state run media. Killing a story, then lying about the justification, is the death of integrity.

This. They do it because they believe they’re saving the nation.
It’s always the complicated explanation instead of the obvious one that these two guys believe in the right wing stuff they’re pushing
I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out someday that Alito and Thomas were caught in uncompromising situation and were being blackmailed. Because at this point they are mostly walking rubber stamps.

I’m not sure Americans ever opposed this system, just the people running it.

When Americans run it, they support it.
The CBS investigation portrays a modern concentration camp, similar to the Soviet GULAG (like CECOT, an acronym): sadistic guards, 24 hour lighting, isolation cells.
Americans once opposed this inhumane system.
The Trump administration sent innocent people there to suffer.

Conservatives:
Profs violate student free speech when student speech is conservative, and students threaten profs’ free speech when prof’s speech is conservative.
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

That’s what “billions” does.
