Forests, Fires, and Falsehoods: Exposing the Timber Industry’s Greenwashing Playbook

This is for those who prefer citations/data over talking points. Evan Frost and I unpack how “sustainable forestry” has become a shield for carbon loss & habitat destruction.

It’s rare these days but some breaking GOOD news- the BLM is canceling the very controversial 42 Divide Timber Sale Project in Southern Oregon (for now). Oregon environmental groups were “all in” to fight this project & the EA produced was so shoddy

Sad to see this inholding in the Willow Flats area on the Umpqua National Forest get logged. It’s bordered by 275+ yr old old-growth. One of my favorite areas in the North Umpqua now will have a clearcut scar

I’ve become a huge proponent of digitally archiving old work. If you’re an enviro group, *please* preserve old project documents along with your group’s groundtruth efforts.

Ive made a map to check whether or not your favorite Northwest Forest spot now facing increased logging due to the recent Executive Order. This map combines the two criteria (Section 602 lands & very high/high wildfire risk) into one zoomable map. www.arcgis.com/apps/instant...

Random post but does anyone have recommendations for locksmiths in the City of San Francisco proper? I need to resolve some entry door lock issues for a house that’s in the Sunset district.

Thanks!

Tell Senate Energy, Technology, and Federal Relations committee members that Montanans want to see the few remaining wild areas of our national forests protected, not roaded, commercially logged, or developed.

Montanans
Oppose SJ Resolution 14, which asks Congress to strip protections from >6 million acres of national forest roadless areas, including the Badger-Two Medicine, and another million-plus acres of Wilderness Study Areas on national forest or Bureau of Land Management lands.

Everyone - please submit your public comments for the proposed changes to NEPA! NEPA is a PROCESS but does not require a certain outcome - federal agencies utilize NEPA to consider the env impacts of a project prior to doing/funding the work.

ZELENSKYY: Putin broke the ceasefire. What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you speaking about?

VANCE: I think it's disrespectful to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media

This isn’t just some random trailhead, either. This is a very popular year round hike along I-90 just below Snoqualmie Pass.
USFS trailheads are closing due to staffing cuts -- just wait until summer arrives, real public lands chaos looms.

Calling your reps is only the 1st step. This excellent old Amnesty International advocacy video gives very practical next steps for turning that call into a relationship. It also offers great tips on how to keep the pressure up until you get what you want. This should be mandatory for civics class.

Really surprised but grateful for this. The FS attitude & response to public comments during this project was discouraging.

Paraphrased example: “we’re building 17 miles of temporary roads on this project but we won’t tell you where they are..”
Big news from Mount Hood National Forest! Oregon Wild has reached a settlement with the U.S. Forest Service over the Grasshopper logging project. This agreement includes major improvements to protect mature and old-growth forests, northern spotted owl habitat, and carbon storage.
